It's astounding what that little filler did. The mpg might still be less than I had hoped for, up to about 10 mpg ave[was 5-6 before], still not bad for a 7000lb 4X4, but this is fun and interesting. I have the idle leaned to about 14:1 AFR on the guage. It's not the smoothest idle[set lean to save gas] but it's still good, at 750 rpm. Starts with the touch of the key. The smoothest idle is rich, 13.0:1. The secondary plate is almost closed and there is very little slot expposed at idle. No hesitation though.
I went down two more primary jets to 63. The AFR, cruise at 55 to 65 mph, is now 14:5 and very steady. At 65 to 75 it leans to about 15:1.

It runs great. Fast warm ups, no hesitation, I even went through the roundabout getting on the freeway, this morning, at 20 mph, with a cup of coffee in hand, and just smootly accelerated down the on ramp to 65 in 5th gear. Unreal. Thank you again. lee

Okay "the numbers are in" LOL
You've got me considering trying a 4 hole gasket.
Matt, Seeing that you have actually done it with a Q'jet and to save doing it myself (I'll just take the easy way out like everyone else does on the internet instead of searching themselves) : Who makes a 4 hole Q'jet spacer type gasket ?
I have in stock almost EVERY 4 BBL carb gasket GM ever made.
As far as I know they (GM) never made a Q'jet 4 hole type spacer gasket - although with my Zirconium coated intake heat isolation is hardly an issue.
In the meantime I'll go and look through all my mfr's catalogues and see what I can find ?

Was still looking through my catalogues :
Edelbrock's was wood and 3/4" thick - don't think I have that much room.
Was thinking about making one out of phenolic or similar as I am leery of wood being too soft and warping the base plate.
Yeah I see the Fel-Pro one - I'll order one in to see how well the bores line up.
Victor-Reinz and Mr Gasket also make them - might have to go on a buying spree LOL
Will also have to tap and plug the EGR hole in my intake - hope I can avoid pulling the intake just to do that.
Zirconium Oxide is what the heat insulating tiles on the Space Shuttle were made of

I saw a PBS show on those shuttle tiles. Very impressive! Even ordinary ceramic bathroom tiles are amazing. I have an extra tile on the kitchen counter. Put a pot of boiling water on it and the tile does not even warm up.

how about a fully divided dual plane on an LS3 build? Richard S., a retired GM powertrain guy, picked up 3 mpg 
and that is with port EFI and a 1000 cfm throttle body.. His goal is 600hp with 396"

I have just been going through the exercise trying to source 4 hole insulators (and 4 hole gaskets) - they are getting harder to find.
Mr Gasket is / has discontinued most of them.
I DO have a Fel-Pro 1905 ordered through Rock Auto.
Victor - Reinz is not a very commonly carried gasket line.
I WAS going to make a 1/4" insulator/isolator plate from scratch so that I could line the bores up / custom fit it to the carb and intake and also make the bores as smooth as possible for better flow - then I realized how crazy my "bore" and smoothness concerns are - the friggin thing is only 1/4" thick !
How much can the alignment issues be, for smooth flow, as long as there are no edges or lips to disrupt flow ?
Hell maybe I'll just use a gasket and forget the spacer - I don't think a 1/4" spacer is doing anything effective regarding flow.
AND I don't need the heat insulating ability of the spacer - my intake is actually quite COLD (to the touch) after a highway run.
Keep posting people's latest discovery's using 4 hole / divided plenums.

gasket has to be strong enough to withstand pulses near the speed of sound. so 1/4" is good.
carb should be cold after a run.
BUT, parked for 1/2 hour? that is when heat boils out fuel. so isolation helps.
