Paul is referring to the smog pump assembly. I will let Paul will jump in and explain it way better than I ever could.

Mike Ward and Easy Mike, I just checked my 68 L-79 engine on an engine stand and there is only the small 1/8" npt hole for the oil gauge tube at the back of the block. That earlier block has the huge hole in the back that I am assuming is for the road draft tube and two npt holes.
