I did mine for less than a grand. I stripped it to bare glass. All I was looking for was a nice driver and it came out real nice.
1) Stripped with Citristrip
2) SPI epoxy
3) High build primer Nason
4) Nason urethane single stage

it was sprayed in a garage, followed by lots of color sanding. If you get up close you'll find its not a best-of-show paint job, but its nice for a driver/street rod

Le Mans Master
Start to finish was 750.00 in material, shot in my 1 car garage at home. I used all Dupont products called the Chroma base system. BB -CC. Purchased from a local body shop supplier. Stripped it down with Capt Lees chemical stripper.

A grand total a bit over$600 to purchase all materials to go from pic one to pic 2. Most material came from a local jobber, epoxy primer and PPG MAE from eBay. Done in its entirety right where you see it.

I spent about $300.00 on acrylic enamel paint with a hardener. I used old school lacquer primer, and sanded the car down with just sandpaper. I painted her in my open air barn, and ended up with a few bugs mixed in the next morning. I waited 2 weeks, and wet sanded, then buffed. I think it came out good for a daily driver. I have less than $600.00 into the whole job.

Man, every one of these cars is spectacular!
For respiratory protection I use a Breath Cool system
http://www.turbineproducts.com/servlet/Detail?no=67 it has a full hood that covers my shoulders and upper torso that is attached to the mask.
With 150' of hose I can put the fresh air intake well outside the building where it will little chance of uptaking paint fumes.
One thing that's nice about it, is standing there mixing thinners, paints, activators, solvents etc, and not smelling a bit of it the whole time. and the volume of fresh air (adjustable) is like having air conditioning.

Don't get mad... it's not a vette... it's my other baby... I painted my 63 Lincoln Continental convertible for $1000 in supplies. PPG black. I got all the mixing supplies, enough for a sealer, 2 coats of primer, another sealer, 3 coats of black, and 3 coats of clear. It could have been less, but it was a complete color change, so I had to spray under the hood, trunk, jams, and various top parts. Sprayed it half in my garage and half in the yard. Took quite a bit of color sanding...

This is a really thread. Great job guys! Makes me want to paint my car tomorrow. It will be a few years before I'm ready but this thread will certainly be in my archives for when the time comes.
