In California that would be a fair price; how many owners, original paint, numbers matching, any accidents?

nice car, but no- over priced by three grand or more.

Keep looking and watch the c3 crs for sale section to compare.

Thats a 15 grand car here in central NY.

Let me explain...a decent condition, used Vette here will set you back 4-6K. Throw in a rust free frame..holy hell thats HUGE here...another 2K. Anything with an honest frame, good engine and nice paint starts in the 10-12 K range...

I know many will say its too expensive....but thats a relative term....

1. Its priced too high, or
2. You can find a better car for that much money.
Just my opinion.
Have you seen it? If you MUST have it , start an offer at $10k and see where it goes.

Completed 1979 auctions within a 200 mile radius of New York zip code 10001.

COMPLETED AUCTIONS

All have red final prices which means none have sold. Just for fun I also tried each year from 74 to 82 and the results are all the same. A few beautiful examples that never even made it to $10K. From the looks of it, NY appears to be a terrible area to try and sell a C3 for even a dirt cheap price.

Can you provide a source showing cars like the OP mentioned selling for $15K?
Here in the Chicago area I see plenty listed on Craigslist for that type of price. Of course they are re-listed week after week. The weeks eventually turn into a year for those too stubborn to cut the price in half.

if your patient you can find the same car for just under ten thousand on ebay, craigslist, kijiji ect he is asking too much offer him $9k and let him argue you up to 10,500 but no more than that even perfect the cars just aren't worth it in this economy
and aren't selling for that much

but buying a completed ready to drive car is ALLOT cheaper than buying a fixer upper c3 so buying one like this is definatly the smartest move for you to make just don't over pay
everyone on this forum is very helpful an welcoming the corvette owners an this is a cool group of people will all the information you could ever need on these cars hope you get this or another c3 at a fair price soon i like being a newbie here and see other new people join an share pics an thougths it is a huge community fun to learn about an be a part of good luck

Default 79 vet

I kinda agree with everyone on this one. It is a bit over priced by about 4000-3000 in my book. From pictures it does look good but I know also how misleading pictures are. Would be curious also if the original wheels go with such a low mileage beauty. If this car had a rare color combination then I could see it more clearly why the seller is asking that much. One good option is the 4-speed but there are still better deals in this economy found in the south. Just my .02

I also agree that the price is a little high...But also the seller might know that the price is a little high and might really be looking for around 10K. If he is not willing to negotiate though then I would move on because just like everyone else is saying you can find pretty much the same car for less money if you look hard enough and be patient...

But just like Easy Mike said...Is it worth the money to you? You might love the car and have to have it and feel like the price is reasonable...and if this is the case and you gotta have it...get it

Default follow up 79 vet

Just got off the local craigslist here in Charlotte and found 3-1979,s for sale. Two of them at 11,500- one 80k and the other one less than 37k.
Another one in decent shape for 4500.00 ---I think if I was looking I would definitely look around more . Both of the 11,500 cars were also best offer accepted.

I just bought about the same car, less (original) miles, but auto trans. (no original smog pump) but L82 numbers matching, etc.

$5700.

The highest actual "buying it" price of anything I looked at that was priced correctly for today's insanely poor economy, was $8k (asking $9500).

This was South Carolina.

Default my reactions!

My reactions and 2 cents:

*good paint, L82, 4 sp, working ac, good tires are all a plus

*price completed ebay sales as suggested in above post

*when most people decide on a price to sell a car, most people add some wiggle room, maybe a couple of thousand for this range. If the first week advertised, I get a thousand calls, maybe I am only willing to drop price a few hundred. After several weeks with no activity, maybe I will easily drop a couple thousand. So, how long on the market? I am betting this one will sit for awhile, a little high right now. I would guess somebody, might pay 9.9 or 10.5 though maybe little more if they really wanted it. Remember things are only worth what somebody is willing to pay and all Corvettes are an emotional purchase (except when explaining to the wife! ).

*Also, call him up and ask "how much you gotta have?"

*Market right now is a buyer's dream, still tough for sellers.

*Half the fun (and cheapest part too btw) is looking, once you buy, you got it!

Hey with the info listed for this car no one can really say it is over by 3 grand or any other price. One needs to know much more to even come close to saying what it could be worth! There is enough info on this forum for things that need to be checked and verified if this is a sound car, you need to look at it in person take pictures check for rust and such, with all that type info, only then can anyone really help you on value, but the bottom line is do you feel comfortable paying a given price for a given car!

Something to remember, 1979 was the single largest production run for any corvette year. There were nearly as many L82's made that year as there were total corvettes made in 1970.

IMHO, I don't believe a brand new NCRS frame-off restoration would be able to fetch more than $15k, so because of that, the car to me, is worth much less than the asking price. I would be hard pressed to go over $10k for any original 79. I'm sure there are many 79's out there that are worth more, but because there were so many made, I think 79 is one year where a fresh crate engine increases the value over an original engine.

That car is easily worth that. The wheels are a problem, but solvable and you may be able to use that to get the price lower. That car is a L82 4sp,
Out of 53k 79's 14k of them were L82's so that is only about 25% of them were L82 cars, only 7% of the total production were 4spd cars, that is between L48 and L82, so you have a good car. You can't compare if to a 79 L48 auto, yes they are worth less then this one. If it is the original color they only mad 2k or so in red, so you have a red L82 4spd that you can get for 13.5, yep that is a good deal even if you can't get the seller to come down any.

Now this is the kind of info that is very usefull, but still one needs to know much more on the condition of this or any other car also.
