79 vette vs 92 gt
so heres the deal just finished helping my buddy build and get his 92 gt running, and as always now the competion starts. fortunatly i helped build his car so i know whats in it. my dd is an 01 ss with full headers/tb/intake/suspension/exhaust but the car i want to run him in is my project car. so heres the specs on both cars
his car
92 foxbody mustang gt
brand new crate 331 stroker
gt40x heads
bbk ssi intake
bbk long tubes with x pipe
manuel 5 speed trans
paxton sn2000 supercharger on 5psi
electronic fuel injection
my car
1979 corvette
brand new crate 383 stroker
gm 550 lift heads 210cc intake runner (2.02 int 1.60 exh valve)
edlebrock performer rpm intake
holly 4150 carb with quick fuel 780 internals
H-pipe to flowmaster 40's dumped
comp 224/230 cam 509" 519" lift 112 lsa
brand new 700r4 trans
now im petty sure hes got the advantage on me but he just got his motor running for the first time last night and my motor has already gone through the bugger parts of the break in process so i have some time, so with a bigger cam, a better stall converter (current is at 1600) how might this race turn out? not sure what cam id go with yet but im looking at the thumper from comp.

Speaking from a perspective which completely lacks any thoughtful and logic-based analysis, but nevertheless charming in its simplicity... MUSTANGS SUCK!!! :-P
Sorry... just had to say it. I hope you receive plenty of responses much more helpful than mine. Now go kick some 'stang butt. :-)

Who cares, doesn't matter how fast it is, it is still a Mustang. They are common everyday cars. Park the cars side-by-side at Burger King and see which one gets the most attention.

I don't think you're not going to beat a boosted Fox body.
But the only way to know is to take them to the track and go head to head.

Tell him you'll drag race him, 1/4 mile, down the flight deck of an aircratft carrier. Then let him win.........LOL!!!! You know what I'm talking about!!!!!

I think power wise the 383 will match up fairly well with his. Since you have an auto, I'd guess you don't have real good gears backing you up so he'll eat your lunch in the 1/8th and the only hope that you have is him not having the gears to keep up the last 1/2 of the track.
Just tell him when he builds a real engine and doesn't take the easy way out with boost, you'll race.

You've 'probably' got the standard 3:55 gears.
What stall are you looking at? IMO you need at least 2500.
That intake runner (210) seems a touch big. Probably good for
7 Grand. Hope you got forged pistons if you are running that high.
As far as which would be faster.... don't know. Thats the fun.
Traction plays a big part.

the mustang is not a full frame car like the corvette it is gonna be a few hundred lbs lighter and the 5 speed is in his favor if he knows how to use it he wont have any where near the hp of your 383 but his motor has all torque he will most likely beat you off the line and stay ahead of you till the very end of the 1/4 mile it could be close but you should be able to pass him and get your bragging rights just remember mustangs are like tampons every ****** got one

To the OP; Coupled with the broad torque range delivered by the SC, light weight, straight axle (tires remain flat on the pavement) etc, etc, you have your work cut out for you. He's going to be over 400# of torque, maybe more than 450 ? His power under the curve is going to be a plus factor, whereas a big cammed 383 with the setup you're contemplating, is going to be "peaky".
In the end, he's going to be formidable on the drag strip, and his will have nice street manners to boot. Your approach "needs work", i.e., some engineering and less hap hazard. And too, in the end, yours ain't going to be so nice to drive in traffic, not by a long shot. I think you'd be better off inviting him to a road course race, instead of a drag race. A Vette is sooo much more than a 1/4 mile car, performance wise. See if he can keep up in the twisties.
And, like someone said, go to a cruise night and see which one draws the most attention... Nothing like a nice C3 for drawing a crowd! Not that the 383 Vette couldn't be dolled up to compete in the quarter, but your plan to get there seems (to me) to be hap hazard (sorry).
