She Rides Like a New Car
Greetings All,
I've just completed the install of new Bilsteins F & R and also new heavy duty sway bars - F & R on my '70 convertible.
Wow, what a difference!! She now handles like a new car and just loves the local roundabouts and chicanes.
An absolute pleasure to drive - can't wait for the arrival of the 383

If you don't already have a composite rear spring, you'd be amazed at what a difference that would make!!

Gentleman, I have had lots of different response on sway bars. You can over sway bar these cars, & believe me they will just take off, any way they want, when you do. Have a great one. Gene

If you don't have one yet, a tie bar for the front shock towers will also help a great deal with the front end. I could feel the difference on mine when I installed one.

"doctorgene" seems to be a little caught up in his verbage. What I think he's trying to say is, if you put too big a bar on the rear end of the car, it can cause the car to go from being stable in a curve, to "snap oversteer" in a hurry.

leadfoot4, Thank you. I sure didn't mean to Confuse paul 74. That's exactly what I did over sway bared it. I had the front 1.25 front factory sway bar, added a 3/4" rear bar,. At high speeds, even at slight turns, it became hard to handle. Lucky for me, some of the smart Corvette Forum members, knew exactly what was happening to me. Thanks again to them. Have a great day. Steering.
Borry,
Good to hear of your damper upgrade, but how's the steering feel when you're carving the curves? Everything you hoped for? Let me know.
Regards from Down Under.

Hey John, great to hear from you. I've been trying to get to a Club Meeting but work keeps getting in the way
Steering is so much better and easier following the conversion - much more drivable. I am however, experiencing noise at full lock (either direction) so need to get to the bottom of it - I can't pick if it's pump, box or belts. Once I have somebody available to assist I should be able to hone in on what the noise source is.
I'll keep you posted.

and did you instal double action shocks on your vette has well big bad borry?
according to the book I just finished up, Corvette 68 - 82 by tom falconer the best kind of shocks are double action koni classic shocks set up to their softest setting mixed in with that latter improved fiberglass spring.
and normally I wouldnt quote books or people like this but the guy who wrote it was a british mechanic who worked on the C3 when it first came out till the end of its production and then some so its probably worth looking into.
