C3 is #1 in yet another category
I was wondering where they would place our car in this category:

I am shocked that the E-Type isn't on the list though; I think that beats even the C3.

1.) C3 Corvette

Why it's so thrusting: What really shoots the Stingray into the top spot on this list is that it doesn't just look like a *****, but that it's bought almost exclusively as a middle age crisis mobile. The Stingray makes the phallic nature of front-engine sports cars more obvious than any other car, as reader snapoversteer explains:
True story: my dad's buddy bought one of these in about 1978 without telling his wife. They came over for dinner, and before he could respond to inquiries about the new ride, his wife, a psychologist, said, "Oh, Bob's just driving his *****," and promptly went inside.

The statement "the C3 is bought almost exclusively as a middle age crisis mobile" might have been accurate in 1978, but making that statement today is, uh, stupid.
Outside of the writer not knowing what constitutes a Stingray, I'd point out that the late C3s were in fact prototypical middle age crisis cars (if there were any) but today the majority of the C3s outside of the very early and highly optioned Stingrays (there's that word again) are purchased by entry level-Corvette buyers, for under $10k (less than most kids' college cars) and are bought by a much younger buyer than any middle age crisis candidate.

I am 46, bought my '80 'vette when I was 43. However, I have never been married, never had any kids, I have made my own decisions and had a great time all my life, so I am definitely not having a mid-life crisis. And my 'vette is not a phallic symbol, either; in fact, I think it looks extremely voluptuous and feminine. I think whoever uttered the quote in the original post may be working thru some issues of his own........

Number Ten.
[QUOTE=bobbarry;1579363128]I was wondering where they would place our car in this category:
bobbarry,
If you had have looked carefully, you'd have seen that a red C3 was last on the "top ten" list. So there's the answer to your question.

Safety Car
I bought my first C3 (a '74 Vert) in 1977 when I was 19. Had at least one (as many as three) since then. So middle age came early. And forget second childhood, I'm still in my first./:\

If I want to have a middle aged crisis why can't I? The truth is that with the costs of everything it often takes a while to have enough disposable income to buy and maintain a toy that many just drive on sunny, warm days. Is that a middle aged crisis or "Now the kids are through college and out of the house" kind of event?
Most of us wanted these cars from 1965 on and couldn't afford them so the "want" has been there for a while...it ain't sudden and it ain't to get blondes to go for rides with or on you.
***** symbol? Get real. That's pure matter that dropped from the south end of a horse going north in my opinion.
Get your shovel and shovel your crap back up.
Some of us are quite happy with our mid life or late life crisis!

Hmmm, I always thought the Shelby Cobra clones in blue with white stripes were the mid-life crisis car du jour. I certainly see lots of them driven by bald-headed old geezers these days.

C3s maybe the most affordable "classic" 2 seaters in today's market as Steve (Vettebuyer5869) pointed out.
