Default Hood problems closing hood

As long as i have had my 78 vette over 15 years i have always had to drop my hood to get it to lock. I have never been able to just lower it down slowly and get it to lock..is this with every 78 or is their something i can do to make lock easy without slaming the hood down.

I have to do the same on my '81. All of the gaps are good around the hood so I do not believe it is an issue of it not being on the car correctly. I would be interested in hearing other owner's experiences too.

Mine is a pain also. I put it down gently and push each side down till they lock. Just the nature of the beast I guess.

Lower it to about six inches, then let it drop. Works on my '80.

From the movie Mr Mom: you're doing it wrong
six or so inches high then drop it. if you do it the way your doing it now it will start to crack the glass in your hood.Ive never gotten my 77 or 75 hood to shut correct without doing the drop method ,If something works I stick with it!!!!!!!!!
Watch you hood bend when you just push one side down at a time.

make sure to push the hood release forward after opening the hood, it's a C3 thang!

I would think you would crack the glass easier dropping the hood than pushing a side at a time. But thats why I'm here to learn something new everyday!

I think the glass is strong enough that a small drop doesn't effect it. Lowering it then pushing, flexes the hood and makes it more susceptible to damage. The only bad thing about dropping it is when you are working on the car and forget to remove something that will block the hood and you drop it on that.

It's been that way even on the C4 and C5's I've had. ave to drop them to get them to catch

I have to do the same thing.....works every time now..

But as far has the 8 in drop I stopped doing this cause after I just spent a ton of money having the car painted and the underside of my hood done I have found crackes in the supports that go from side to side (fender to fender) where the holes are in the support...

Let me agree with the majority....my 82 needs the 6" drop too.

Absolutely a must ... my '80 after day one, 31 years ago ... it works every time. the hood latches will not catch if the release is not pushed completely foward after unlatching. gently lower the hood onto the latches, then pull up and drop from about 8"-10" (18cm - 25cm) and it will not hurt the hood at all. no need to lube the latches either. no misses, cracks, warps ever. just thud and go.

Good news. My bonding exercise with my ‘68 is over! The hood is open! With the camera i was able to clearly see where i needed to land the ratchet wrench and I got the last bolt lose and the hood popped open.

Thank you to all that helped! It’s very much appreciated!
