I kept some Nevada desert dust from the chassis of mine. I'm in New Zealand, so I might sprinkle some on it every now and then in case it gets homesick.

The c3 body is nice, But all of us have to admit these cars wont bring real money till we're dead and gone. Our children will cash in on these cars only if there smart.

We have a bunch of those here in Utica, NY and most have less than 13 miles on them. When they first came out a bunch of guys bought them and put them away.... a couple of the guys tried to sell them a few years ago and they were offered squat! Something like 7K....

My friend ordered one with the 4 speed and Gymkana suspension, CB, and every option available. He took it a step further and left it outside until a year ago. Sold it for $2500.00. It had to be dragged onto the rollback. Everything on it was locked up! What a waste!

Long ago (probably late 70's, early 80's) I remember reading in one of the mags (vette. vette fever, car-craft, I have no idea, used to read lots) about a guy who bought 13 (I seem to remember something about a bakers dozen) 78's and put them away, they all had whatever miles it took to get tehm to the dealer (something like 20 miles).
He took one, and I could be wrong, but I think he took out the original motor and bought a new hood to cut and put a crate motor in with a blower and 4 weber side drafts on top (neat looking setup as I recall)

"Whistling in the Dark" was what the magazine article was titled (can't remember what I had for breakfast but this type of stuff I remember)

I looked around the net but can't find anything on it, but somewhere there was 12 bubble wrapped 78's with no miles.

Like hockey & baseball cards though, it takes guys like me running them through the spokes of the bike made other people who didn't small fortunes!!!!

I remember things from 30+ years ago and don't remember yesterday too. The guys we grew up with that held on to their baseball cards did do real well but the guys who bought 78 Pace Car Vettes and held them for 33 years actually didn't do too well. They could have put that money in the stock market (dow jones was somewhere around 800 back then) and made much more money.

Just an FYI, Corvette Mike's is having a coffee & Corvettes day on 11/26 if you want to take a look at the 78 on display.

I might go just to get a photo of the gas cap for Tom (hunt4cleanair)

Just an FYI, if anyone considers buying a car from Corvette Mike they should get at least 2 inspections........make that 3 inspections

Count me in with the skeptical. Are there that many gullible joe's... nevermind. I know the answer to my own question.

And don't forget to have any appropriate documentation in hand when Corvette Mike starts his used-car sales pitch: "Now here's a dusty one-owner! Still has 1978 premium in it and the Delco battery lights it right off."

Might wear some high-topped boots, too in case you step in something stinky.

I've read all the posts linked here about this car from day 1 and I didn't see anyone claiming the battery was good.
Here's from Corvette Mike's website

However, the car was undamaged. So they pumped up the original tires, pulled it out of the building and brought it to Plymouth, MA. Even the half a tank of the 33 year old gas didn’t even hurt the car. In fact the only thing that had to be changed was a dead battery. The car started right up!

This guy isn't affiliated with the "Corvette Mike" from LA, is he?

Even as a 78 owner I cant help but feel yet another low mileage 78 find is just so much YAWN. Just do a search here on the forums, low mileage 78 finds are about as rare as the common cold.

Anyone else who would display their "pristine" vette with a thick layer of dirt on it would be raked over the proverbial coals for heresy. though I guess the layer of dirt makes it more valuable.

Default Greatful Dead

A while back, I remember one of the members of the Grateful Dead had a 60's Corvette that he bought brand new and never washed. Does anybody remember that story?

Why does having 1/2 " of dust on a car make it more valuable?

Wouldn't it be MORE valuable if they washed it AND polished it?
