My son liked the Mustang better than the Corvette
He had a ride in a P-51 Mustang!!! Please see my post in OT for all the details

That is Daniel (11) talking to the pilot at the front of the plane. Never mind the date stamp. It was not set right and I didn't know until afterward.

If its gotta be a Mustang... that's the one to get a ride in. Wow, I didn't know there were any 2 seaters left, especially ones that are still airworthy.
OK, I just read the post you linked at the top. He is going to be one of a handful of his generation to have had that experience. He reminds me of myself at that age, and my parents encouraged me by taking me to local airshows (Dover AFB, DE) and one summer to the AF Museum in Dayton, OH. If you end up with two military pilots and vette enthusiasts...you have raised them right.

One of the most beautiful planes built. I love to hear their V12’s at idle and WOT… Your son had a once in a lifetime experience, congrats to all and especially to the pilot who took him up.

We just had a combined air and car show last Saturday. 3 P-51's and a B-25 attended. The P-51's are a beautiful machine both flying and parked.
Good for your son, he got an experience that will not be forgotten.

I love the sound of those old warbirds. We have an airshow here in Winston Salem every year and they buzz around the parking lot where I work. Awesome to watch.

FYI there was a civilian version of the Mustang that was a 2 seater and I believe that some were constructed with dual controls. Here is a excerp from an article I found.
To construct the Executive Mustang, Trans Florida purchased military surplus P-51s. The airframes were completely disassembled, the military equipment stripped out, and then rebuilt with a second seat, new avionics, plush leather interiors, luggage bays and civilian paint schemes. By 1961, the aircraft were re-named Cavalier 2000, referring to the 2,000-statute mile (3,200 km) range. Five different Cavalier models were eventually offered: the Cavalier 750, 1,200, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500, differing in fuel capacity, with the name indicating the approximate range of the aircraft. Over the course of the next decade, nearly 20 of these aircraft would be constructed.
If interested do a search for P 51 Cavalier, they were also constructed as military versions in the sixties I believe. The P 51 is indeed 1 of the all time most beautiful planes ever built and was ranked as the number 1 best fighter of all time on the show Top Ten series.

This one is certainly not plush inside. It looks like it would have during it's War use, less the guns. I don't know this particular plane's history, but There were very few of the 2 seat, dual controls made. I heard less than 10 originally built. I know it is a beautiful plane, and maybe the only C model left flying with dual controls. The rumor is they built one for General Eisenhower so he could fly over Normandy from a P-51 Mustang.
