So I have had my C3 for about a month and it still amazes me the number of compliments I receive every day I drive the car. Now I know the 77s are not bringing in huge dollars at auction, but let's face it they are just darn cool. Yesterday I went to a formal event and had to valet and picking up the car there was a line 50+ people long. First of all I heard my vette start up in the garage and knew it was coming but when it came around the corner, people stopped talking and literally clapped. Here is a garage full of BMWs and Mercedes and what got their attention, an old 1977 crappy yellow paint-job corvette. If I had known this I would have bought this car 2 decades ago. God I love my car!

That is what it is all about - people don't see old C3s (77 and earlier)too often and appreciate them, especially folks who grew up with them on the road.

Good story. It also makes it easier to find or retrieve your car. Tell them you are driving a black bmw, and they wont know where it is parked. Tell them its the yellow corvette, and they know which one it is.

What's really amazing, is when you get pre-teen kids appreciating your C3! Most adults know the lineage of the Corvette, and receive nods and thumbs all day long, but when you get a group of 10 year olds scream and wave, it impresses me that they can appreciate anything older than a 2010. Enjoy your celebrity!

i know just what you mean DrRCC. last saturday i stopped at the mercedes dealer to look at the 2012 models. i really want a s550. when i parked my old 69 convertible people and the salesmen actually came out of the showroom to check her out.

So right you are! I actually have 10 year twins and they just love the fact that when I drop one of them off at some event they get their friends to come outside and check out the "vette".

My teenage daughter loves it when I pick her up at school in mine. She's the talk of the school for a week or so after that, and I end up being the "cool" dad

Even here in New Zealand, the neighborhood kids always stop and ask about the car, and when I'm taking it for "test drives" around the street, the kids all wave and call out. Good fun.

There's tons of more modern engineering and power but these pieces of rolling art still turn heads. Enjoy yours...it's part of the charm and you've got lots more of it headed your way.

Cool story. It really makes you feel good when the people who buy the really expensive cars and think they are all that, get ignored with your car comes by.

I am in the process of getting a 1980, my first. This car was made 5 years before I was born. lol. I was not even being dreamed about yet by my parents. lol.

LOl...I was born BEFORE the very first Corvette was even on the drawing board in 1943...

And I got out of high school before the C2 even came on the market and out of college before the first C3's was sold...

I currently own 64 72 and 98 convertibles as well as 76 79 and 88 (35th anniv) Coupes...

ALL the older cars turn peoples heads...ALL the time...my C4 and C5 honestly draw as many looks as a Volvo station wagon ...

My car is originally silver. I think Earl Shieb must have painted it 30 years ago in a maroon color. some of the maroon paint is coming off. I pressure washed some of the paint and anywhere there was a dust speck, the maroon came off. Some of the other places the paint came off the edges. That gave it a pretty cool patina. I keep it running good and safe to drive. That's what is most important to me to enjoy my vehicles. I took my bride to the Black Hills a few weeks ago. Lots of people stopped to look at the car and talk about it. Most asked "What color are you going to paint it?" I reply, "It IS painted." they chuckle but really like to see the old '69. They appreciate it and even think the crappy paint is cool. They seem to appreciate the fact that I'm not too hung up on shiny. I still try to keep the car in stock configuration, so it keeps its original flavor.
