Default Mystery switches (pics)

I've got 2 switches on my new 70 and have no idea what they do or did.

The first one is right next to the hood release, it is a pull/push type, when tracing the cable, it goes into the engine bay, is about 2 feet long and is not attached to anything. Any idea of what it is and what it was used for?

The second looks like an aftermarket mod, a regular flip switch next to the gauges. I tried flipping it up and down but nothing happens. I haven't opened the dash yet to trace it. Any idea of what it could have been used for?

This is where it ends:

And this is the small flip switch:

My guess for the first one is an unused manual choke cable, it looks like an old school cable pull you would put on before or instead of an electric choke.

The second could have been for anything, engine cut off, extra lighting etc.

You're right Frank, it does look and feel like a choke cable. But...why would it be there in the first place? These cars came with a manual choke?

Manual Choke...(not stock)
Bubba's Immobilizer...(not stock)

If that's all you find, consider yourself lucky.

first one since it goes nowhere i would remove it completely and forget about it. it goes no where so no point even knowing what it was...

2nd one would be worth tracing and if it goes nowhere do the same thing but ill take a guess and say they installed a thermo fan and this was the manuual on and off switch. the way he has positioned it is so its out of site to the passenger and in reach for the driver.

Default Vader Vette

The second switch would be a very small wattage my guess it will turn the clock on and off.

Both are foreign. Just get rid of them, unless the low wattage switch operates the thermo nuclear generator!!!!
Get a complete service manual and work it out!!!!!
Have fun,

yup, 1st is a manual choke, i had one like that with a holley 750 and took it off and replaced with a holley electric choke kit.

anything to reduce the spaghetti under my dash.

2nd one, yes needs to be traced, I am curious what it is..

Many people have no idea how to adjust and maintain an automatic choke.

Would a manual with the cable mounted on the wife's side (passenger side) count as an automatic if she operates it ?

Why would a choke cable come up just outside of the steering box? Holley chokes are on the passenger's side and the cable should be further inboard.

Someone just stuffed it over there to get it out of the way. It comes through the firewall over by the throttle cable.

wouldn't be very convenient to use on the other side of the center gauge console. it does take a pretty sharp right hand (passenger side) turn it appears. i agree that someone along the way gave up on the auto choke and replaced it with a manual job (very easy auto store purchase back in the day). many "old timers" never trusted automatic chokes and put in a manual replacement as soon as possible (yeah, i know i am old, lol).

the toggle switch is certainly not attached to anything drawing loads of current. it would have overheated along the way and melted the area around it if it was i would think. could have been aux lights, fan, cut off, lots of things. i agree that it should be traced carefully before just getting rid of it. have you thrown it to see what effect it might have?? if you throw it and the car won't start, it's a cut off, lol. the rest (assuming whatever it controlled is long gone) will be a challenge to figure out.

I flipped the toggle switch while car running....nothing happened. I will trace it when I get the dash opened up and will let you guys know what I find out.
