Pic Request - L82 Intake Duct - see pics
Just looking to go back to original style with all of the intake'air cleaner ducts...Not sure how this large one that sits on top of the radiator connects to the radiator core/frame. I can see that there are holes in the duct and the core, but what fastens them together?

Did someone cut the top half of that off?
That front piece goes under the radiator surround with the missing top half over it sandwitching it.
There should be J-nuts in those holes, the top half with matching holes with the screws going into the j-nuts.
Also, the front part of that lower half has been cut off. Should be 4 holes with those remaining holes lining up with those holes in the rad surround.

No - it hasn't been cut...I bought it new from one of the vendors some time ago. That is how it came. I checked Zip's web site and it looks like the one that they sell too...

79vetter,
That is a bad part from whom ever you purchased it from. If they call that a 79 L82 intake duct their full of "Horse Cookies".
I wonder why some suppliers are getting so "rip-off-ish.
I'm a little more direct than L-82. He's a real mellow fellow...how about it Mike...heheheheheh
Remember..."Always try to buy an original part in good condition that can be restored with minimal effort.

I found my receipt from Dr. Rebuild - part # 3402514. It says its for :
'78-L82
'79-81
The L-48 duct is significantly different so I know that mine is not one of those.
hmmm...

That is what I thought. My '77 only has one so I do not have any pics.. I personally have never seen that piece you have but I have not seen everything. I have seen dual snorkles hooked up with the flexible hoses here before. See what I can find. Somebody will have a original stock photo. mike...

On my '80 the duct fits under the radiator support and sits just over the condenser. It is made like the one in the OP's picture. It is also a dual snorkel setup as were all '80 engines. The design must have changed to accommodate the low profile hood.

Exactly! Why the vendors don't tell you that is pretty misleading.

I have a 79 L-82 and the duct you have looks just my original from GM. I slips in between the radiator and the radiator support. It has three j-nuts that bolt it to the radiator support. I think the cut away part is to provide clearnace for the hood.

Here's a photo of my original 1979 L-82 air duct installed. You will notice that the duct is close to the hood. It was probably cut to fit the application at the factory. You will get a lot of advice on here, but sometimes people with good intentions are incorrect. And don't believe everything you see on ebay.

Unless it's a late, late production 79 that they used an 80 duct on, but not likely.
And yes, obviously sometimes people with good intentions are incorrect.

Don't have a good pic handy, but, if you look at that ebay link you'll see part no 472711, same as the ducts on all 4 of my Vettes. All low mile originals.
I put the one back on my pace car tonight and checked the number just to be sure.
79 AIM, page 335. Part no 472711. The pic in the AIM is kinda funky but once you realize what it is you can tell it's enclosed.
