1982 value
Looking at a red 1982, paint 9.5. interior 9.5, all original, heavily optioned, garage kept, 30k miles. Needs tires, ac cycles on and off rapidly, radio has power but no sound, gas gauge stuck on 3/8. Runs and looks great. Owner is down to $13,500. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Define "heavily optioned." The list was somewhat short for 82. Post pics.

Sorry no pics but the body has no signs of repairs and all the panels fit well. Paint is smooth and shiny (Zainoed). Options are power seat, power locks, glass roof panels, rear defogger, cruise control, N90 alum wheels, amfm radio w cassette, power antenna.

I bought my red 82 in March for $9,300. Original paint and interior, both in GREAT condition. IT had a one piece top instead of the T-Top from the last owner, so I'm sure that brought the value down a little. The speedometer was broken, so the odometer was showing about 400 miles less than actual (according to the person I bought it from). That was an easy fix though. It has power windows(just had a new motor installed, those windows zip up and down), power driver seat, power locks, rear defroster am/fm radio with cassette player. It had 77,000 miles on it. And the gas gauge isn't accurate. The one you are looking at sounds similar to mine. I hope that helps.

I got mine last year in Atlanta, glass tops, power locks, power windows, two tone paint in great shape, rear defrost, cold ac, 80k miles, newly recovered seats, great interior, speedo worked but made noise, paid 11,500 from a Vette dealer. I guess its worth what you want to pay.

Without seeing the pics I think it could be an ok deal. Tires, a/c service and radio are cheap. Go to willcox corvette and read their fuel gauge troubleshooting guide. Heres what to check before you agree. Spray some carb cleaner or something similar, around the intake manifold seal while its running. If it changes the rpm that manifold could be warped. Make sure the A.I.R. system is there. Some counties require an emissions visual check. That system is expensive to replace and can be horrendous to pay the fines for if you remove it. If you can jack it up, shake the back tires. If there is more than just a little movement it could be trailing arm/rear wheel bearing troubles and is not worth staying around for that price. Look at the frame by the rear wheel and under the front crossmember. There is a fuse in the battery box. Pull it out and clean it then put it back. It's kind of an embarrassing ride home when that one corrodes.
I really like my 82. Good luck with yours.

Power windows, AC, and Tilt/Tele were all standard equipment for the 80-82 models. Leather, power brakes, stereo, power steering, and sport mirrors were standard beginning with the 79s.

Make sure it idles and purrs like a kitten. Make sure it excellerates perfecty. Make sure the idle is stable when warm and around 550-600 rpm in gear. That will tell you that the crossfire is working properly.

Biggest thing on these older cars where someone claims low miles...prove it. Too easy to disconnect the speedo and get "free" miles on these cars.
Previous owner on my car was able to provide copies of past title exchange. The dates/miles jived with CarFax as well as an online title search for Ohio. That's three independent sources to document her 22K miles.
A/C cycle is the low pressure sensor...converted to 134 or still R12? Mine was converted in 99 and slow leaks each season. One can of 134 each year and she's fine for the season.
Gas gauge could be problem with float/filter in the tank.
IMHO $13.5 is a little high for this car without everything working.
...enjoy the hunt!

Here is a link to the Orange county Barrett Jackson sale. This car was really nice. Say what you will, but the B-J is a decent barometer of current car values. Of course it all depends on how bad someone wants the car too.

A low mile 82 that's original can fetch more than $12.5K in my area.
