Default California emissions question for service members

I was wondering how California emissions laws effect military service members with vehicles registered out of state. My '77 is registered in Maryland and does not have the original engine or emissions equipment.

Any info would be appreciated,
Thanks

You are exempt from California emissions laws as long as you keep the registration in your home state.

As a precaution, keep your drivers licence in the same state. If you get pulled over with a California Drivers licence, they will assume you're trying to circumvent paying California registration, and you know how not paying taxes pisses off THE MAN.

You are exempt from CA law, however some bases require you to have a current smog certificate to register your car on base. Check the base where you are going. If you are in the Marine Corps plan on getting your car smog checked.
