Default Dome light problem

I just experienced this problem today, my dome light and the light near underneath my steering column stay on. I have played with the courtesy light twisting the **** and what not to try to shut it off but it will not turn off. It wasn't ever on before until out of the blue today. Does anyone have ideas on what this possibly could be?

I believe your car has a delay timer module on the interior lights. Chances are it has "thrown craps" and is stuck in the ON position. You will need to disconnect it to keep from running the battery down...and replace it so that it can work properly.

Yep, delay....
Contact Willcox. They offer a replacement circuit board that goes inside the orange box.

The little orange box is located just to the right side of the glove box, when you remove the tray inside you will see it, a mechanic told me he has had to replace them because of lights staying on and also lights that won't come on at all.

If you want to ditch the timer all together and save yourself some $$$ you can unplug the timer box, on the harness that was plugged in to it, take a piece of wire and jump the two white wires on each end of the connector. This is what I did on my '81 and it works perfectly. Now your dome lights will turn on and immediately turn off when you open and close the door. I never liked the dimming feature on dome lights because I am always afraid it will stay on.

on older cars like ours, this is a very helpful suggestion. it just eliminated one more potential problem area (unless you replace the parts with new to make them more dependable). personally, i would want the car to function (if at all possible) the way it came from the factory, but i can appreciate the apprehension of potential gremlins that seem to haunt older cars that don't see regular use.

One other thing to check is the ground. I have been told that the ground controls the timing circuit. Mine has had similar issues. When a find a better ground it works again. Food for thought.

I jumped mine but now I cant turn the dome light on from the headlamp switch. It just comes on and off when you open and shut the doors. anybody know why?
