Default 1971 Coupe Specs.

Looking at a 1971 coupe with TH400 auto and 350. The owner claims that the car came from the factory with an LT1 hood, but the engine code is CJK indicating L46 base engine. Is it possible that the car came from the factory with an LT1 hood(less decals) and base engine? or the likely scenario that the hood was changed in the restoration? Does the hood change out devalue the car? All numbers match on the block.
I have heard rumor that some LT1 hoods were used at the factory for non LT1 engines.

Default Hood

My guess would be,not. Most likely added during the resto.Value at that point is like beauty,in the eyes of the beholder(or buyer) in your case.

If the engine is 'original' to the car and it is not an LT-1, the hood did not come from the factory. Lots of folks like the looks of the BB hood on a SB (L-48...{L-46 was a 350 hp engine option in 1969-70}) car.

If you are trying to bring the car back to original factory condition, you will have to lose the hood. Otherwise, just enjoy the look of the BB/LT-1 hood on your car.

Not likely unless the zone office was able to pull some strings and get the swap approved.

The hood could be purchased over the counter at any GM dealership beginning with the 68 model year.

Six of one half a dozen of the other. Do you like the hood?

Probably a Corvette myth. There were some 67 small block cars which came through with stinger hoods, but I have not heard/read anything of that nature for C3s.

Hi j,
I think you'd need to have a picture of the car on the producton line to convince most people it was delivered with an LT-! hood.
Then, you'd need to convince people that your car is the car in the picture.
Regards,
Alan

Why do you care if it came on the car or not? [By the way....it didn't.]
