Default Can your remove oil pan without removing motor - 71

I want to replace the oil pan on my 71. Is it possible to remove it without removing the motor? Looks difficult to say the least.

thanks

Yes, I changed the gasket on mine in the car, not near as bad as it looks..
I unhooked the drag link from the steering linkage and had no problems.
Just put it on a lift or high on jack stands for the room.

Just remove the two [frame] bolts that mount the idler arm and drop it down. No problem.

You are correct about dropping the steering linkage

No problem... I had my oil pan out of my 71 small block in a matter of 45 minutes.
I just disconnected the idler arm to drop the steering linkage out of the way, and had full access to all of the oil pan bolts. The pan dropped right out..

Make sure you use the one piece blue Felpro gasket when reinstalling.. they make putting the pan back much easier and almost guarantee that there wont be any leaks..

Get the one piece gasket. It is so much better than the stock piece.

Great thanks for all the information guys. I have to look a couple things up and figure out what oil pan I need, never have bought one before and the motor in my car is not original. Right now when you remove the drain plug it hits the bell housing and makes it hard to remove.

Since the car is not stock, just buy a SB replacement pan that has the drain on the side of the pan.
