The Joy of an old Vette
So Saturday I thought I would do my erands in the Vette. Had a funny vision of coming home on a flat bed! I swear I had a premonition for no reason. The car is running great, no problems... As I am cruising along a 70 mph on 161 I see a hint of white smoke behind me . There it is again! Exit at Northgate and Yes It's Me! Oh God Please, so I pull into a RaceTrac and I'm pumping out Tranny Fluid at a fever pitch! AAA on the way but it's like having your woman out on the front lawn naked when you have a nice old car thats broke down! Bottom line got her home and it was an easy fix (if I had samll hands) the rubber tranny lines to the radiator from the trans is ruptured. Sunday morning spent in the garage making the fix. The best part was the car was under the entrance to the attic...Wife said " We can get the Christmas stuff down another time !!!! Finished before the Cowboy Game, Car runs great and I enjoyed my Sunday, Amen

These things will happen but it's worth the trouble to be able to drive our Vettes. Glad you could get it fixed so quickly. Now that you mention it, I need to think of a way to block the wife's access to our Christmas decorations! Thankfully she's busy right now- for some reason she's out on the front lawn naked!

On one of my highway drives I noticed the distinct smell of antifreeze.. I began pounding my steering wheel (not too hard) saying, "no no no, not now!!!" just as I passed this guy stopped on the shoulder with steam blowing out the front of his car. It's not always about you!

When I am in the garage working on the Vette seems to be the best time for my wife to give me stuff to do around the house !!!
I am very happy for you! (the Vette fixed and the very understanding wife you've got)

thats funny to you tell that story, because replacing those tranny lines was the FIRST repair that I did on my car back 4 years ago when I bought it.

Glad you got the car home safely with only minor repairs. Every time I drive mine I am so worried about some kind of mechanical failure. Luckily it hasnt happened yet but thats the price we pay for driving old cars that we love so much

Wife I have now is the one that suggested buying the Vette that WE have. Think I'll keep her around.

Jeez you could've just divorced her instead of selling the 69 haha. Glad to hear you got a better wife now.

I just finished getting my 82 ready to run and filled up the trans and radiator. While checking it for leaks the only one I found was coming from the lower trans cooling line. I installed a new radiator but not new lines. Lesson learned and the new lines and hose should be here today. Thankfully I was not out on the road.

it got so that i started to expect problems when traveling in my 70 Galaxie 500XL. every time i went over 100 miles from home, something happened. dead starter (thank goodness it was a 4 speed car) blew a head gasket up in Charlotte once, lost a rear axle seal out in BFE on the way home from a Grateful Dead concert on the way home from Foxboro in the last 80's. but old cars are a ball, we just have to accept the warts that they all show from time to time.

I had to repair a trans cooler in my '64 Chevelle on the Pa. turnpike.
I had to run new cooler lines on the side of the road on Ft. Polk, La. with my Chevy 1 ton dually.
I had to replace cooler lines AND the cooler in a Wal Mart parking lot in Missouri with my '93 Ford pick up.
.....It happens. At least nothing expensive or permanent happened.
