Is This A Good or Bad Deal on a Good Condition 1979 With A Pretty New 383 Stroker????
The below car is listed for sale. I have not gone to see it yet, but the guy is asking $12,500. Assuming the body and interior are in fine condition, what do you think of his asking price? Seems a little high to me in this current market......and I'm not sure what a 383 crank is....I thought a 383 Stroker had a 400 crank by definition.....
MY OWN novice opinion on the price is not worth much.....so what do YOU think of the asking price based on the description!??!?!?

I agree, just like any other C3, you'll have to see it in person. How is the bird cage? Mechanically, how is the rest of the vehicle? How is the paint? Interior? How does it run? Shift? Having a checklist will help you look it over thoroughly.
It could well be worth the price, if the 383 is done nicely and the rest of the vehicle checks out good.
A car is only worth what another buyer is willing to pay.
Good luck!

Personally, I do not want the modifications the seller has made. His asking price would be moot with me since I wouldn't be interested in the car.

To the OP. I have a 383 with the same CAM and basic setup in my 73. The thing was runs like crazy and is fun as hell on the open highway. I agree with G-String, if the rest of the car is solid and that motor is a solid runner, and it's in your budget, the price does not seem out of line...but you need to go see it, and drive it..only then will you know.

Because he put some power in it and made it run like a Corvette was meant to? In a 79?

I go see it Sunday..
I've seen similar cars go for $9000 and I have not been able to tell why some will go for a grand under ten...while others go thousands above that....
The working AC tells me the rest of the car is maintained generally.....however the seller makes no real mention of the paint beyond "few chips" and nothing of the suspension which could be a sweaking wandering mess in the front and a sagging wimp in the back. Just a list of parts from a stroker motor kit and a few minor other notes. In my mind....the one thing this one has going for it is that it is close....and not a Ebay in another state purchase....

79...was the highest production year of all c3's so...then the car is modded....I would never pay that much for a 78-82 that eaither wasnt cherry or a better condition mod....
I only paid 6500.00 for my 69 convertible.

be carefull and come on back down to earth. the corvette fever does strange things to the less knowledgeable buyer.
take your checklist, look it over well, drive it, especially crawl under it, take a jack since the owner may claim he doesn't have one. beware of rust...
and take a good look at what the prices are for comparable cars..
also, beware of a car with souped up cam and headers.. that means it has been well exercised in the past.. you may be buying someone else's worn out engine. low miles on a souped up engine may only mean a 1/4 mile at a time.

I'd rather have a souped up cam and headers over a factory stock 190HP '79 any day! Bottom line is what condition is the rest of the car in?
If this car is solid both mechanically and visually, the price could be fair.

Like any 30+ year old car has not been rode hard and put away wet at sometime in it's life???? A fresh engine or souped up engine do not mean the car has been beat anymore than a factory stock engine in a factory stock 30 year old car.
