Default 1968 Experts ? Question....

Hello All

A good friend of mine had a brand new 68 with 427 vette in High School that I have heard him talk about over the years. (lucky bassturd) He said it was optioned with some rare "vacuum type" throttle that one time almost killed him when it stuck wide open... He said it was only optioned on the 68 and GM discontinued it after that due to so many problems. Does any one know what this "option" might be. He was a teenager at the time and maybe "full" of it... but who knows?

Throttle is cable operated. Even if the secondaries stuck open, it would just lean pop and die. Maybe it was binding open on him.

He is full of it. The two outer carbs were controlled by a vacuum signal but it was not anything special. Just like having vacuum secondaries. The center carb was on a cable. He probably broke the return spring or something like that.

Sounds like I love these legendary stories from the past Maybe he suffered from a loose nut behind the wheel.

I'm sure he loved his '68, but his recollection of a "vacuum type throttle" option is BS.

...did he also have one of the original "metal" Corvettes too?

How do you start a car that has a choke and a purely vacuum throttle? Anything with a carb will require some throttle to start at some time when there is no vacuum.

My 68 had the only factory installed supercharger! But the original owner took it off because the car was just.... too.... scary!
