1968 Mako Shark 2
I'm looking at purchasing this car to do a full restoration. Anyone know anything about this car or comments before I purchase it for $5k. No motor or trans., supposed to be a GM prototype. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

It's a prototype all right. Fully designed and engineered by Bubba in his own back yard. Serial #1 of 1

Chevrolet designed the Mako Shark in 1965 as a look at the '67 Corvette. The running version can be found in photos around on the Internet.

Design problems like too much front end lift, etc. changed it to the current '68 design.
Baldwin Chevrolet and Motion Performance on Long Island build several of their version of the Maco Shark in the late '60s/early '70s. Kits were available and many more kits were built than the Motion cars.
This is someone's kit. Expect it to be of minimum value when done and not anywhere near what you will have in it to finish it.
They are neat, and I always wanted one, but in today's world, they are just a customized Corvette.

Why are there 2 seperate threads on this?
My post from the "other" thread:
Its just an old C3 with some Motion/maco body parts grafted on... an unfinished project.
Its up to you if recreating a 70's custom floasts your boat, but you need to know that the seller is outright lying to you, re: the GM prototype story. That would bother me.
Maco by Silva!
(whew, I thought all my posts were deleted for some tinfoil hat reason.)

It's flattering to see I'm talked about when I am gone for a few,
I see two threads for this poor car with different replies so to add to the Déjà vu of it I will just post the same reply in both threads...lol,
Guys just because I like customs and defend a fellows right to build one doesn't mean I like every pig in the poke out there nor do I support hack job POS at all.
I have known of this car for a long time, it was at the turkey rod runs and on Fleabay and CL many times, the silly clueless owner thinks it's worth way more than it is...a sad condition that seems to afflict too many owners of Mako kits...
I was told that the frame and bird cage is rotted out as is most everything else, I almost got sick when I misread thinking the post poster paid 5K when a pile like this can be had for 500.00
About the only thing on this jewel worth anything at all is the body kit parts,
A builder would be way better off to find a driver cheap C3 and do their custom on that.

If I wasn't 63, and getting ready to retire, well------------------------ I don't think so.
Looks like a butcher job, I will pass on this one.

First a Mako "kit" on a vette is NOT a " kit car" no more so than a Daytona wide body vette is a Kit car...and I know kit cars since I do staff on www.priceofhistoys.com
Next, while we all agree in most not all cases a custom/modded vette will not be worth as much as it's stock counterpart saying it will be of no value is just uninformed and asinine,
Look at cars built buy roadracer in your way of thinking the would be worthless kit cars too....
By the time my 69 convertible is a "mako" custom it will be worth around double what I have invested, not that is will be for sale or that I care at all about using my cars as investments.
