What was your most "silly" mistake that you've ever done to your 'vette?
I asked this question because what I did few weeks ago was the most "silly" mistake that I've ever did to my 'vette, and probably the most silly mistake ever done by anyone in the world!
I had a broken push rod replaced, and while I was searching for any metal particles that my eyes may have missed using a telescopic magnet, I decided to slide it into the push rod hole to see if anything dropped there, well, guess what!, I pulled the whole lifter out of its place and it dropped somewhere in the dark area down there!! .. I was so frustrated and shocked!,, I almost stabbed myself with a screw driver for doing such a silly thing!! .. thankfully, and with some luck, I managed to put it back in its place using the same magnet.
Lets hear your story?

Dumping regular oil in it from 2004 until early 2009, then discovered my cam was wiped. Nobody told me that our wonderful government changed the oil specs on zinc and phosphorous content. My fault for not joining this forum earlier.

....could you elaborate? What do you mean by regular oil? And what should I be using? I could search I suppose...but since you brought it up..

Hi,
I spent weeks tracking down a radio problem (with Jerry Rudbeck's help) with a weak battery that could operate the radio light but not power the radio. SILENCE!!!!!
Regards,
Alan

I tuned my electric fan off because it was very cold out and wanted to bring it up to temperature.....then I forgot to turn it on. It overheated and left me stranded one the side of the road in rush hour.

I'll just briefly summarize and may not be entirely accurate. Around 2005 the US government mandated the zinc and phosphorous levels in conventional passenger car oils be reduced in order to save on the life of catalytic converters. Unfortunately our older cars with flat tappet cams required those levels to be at least 1200 ppm in order to avoid premature cam and lifter failures. Most new cars sold in America after 1990 or so have roller cams and do not require the higher levels. You need to read the oil sticky at the top of the technical section.

The year was around 1984 Duran Duran and Flock of seagulls blasted out of the Kracos and Sparkomatics,
I was in black parachute pants and a spiked belt and hopped into my 81
Each spike tore a big old long rip like Errol Flynn sliding by dagger down a pirate ships sail in my like new seat.....
My wife still wears that belt but the spikes got ripped out of it that day it raped my seat.

put my gauge cluster back together, fired up the car, but forget to connect the oil line behind the gauge.. what a mess, spent a couple of hours cleaning that up..
