I have a 77 auto .How do get the ball off.I read that the push button and spring has to come first? Not sure how that comes apart.Could someone tell how that comes apart.

Both push button and ball are threaded onto shaft. Need to grab hold of button to get it started. I was replacing it, so used vice grips to get going. Twist the ball off after removing the button and spring.

a pipe wrench will work if you dont want to keep the old one.
