I would recommend staying away from a chemical stripper. Richard Newton in his book How to Restore & Modify Your Corvette, recommends taking the car to the media blaster over using a chemical stripper because of the chance that not all the chemical will be neutralized.

Is this a urethane bumper car or metal. GM recommends using a flex agent on the urethane bumpers. Many of them crack. If they are (or too wavy to keep) I would replace with a fiberglass bumper.

Don't dig through the gel-coat.

Dude did you say boss???? Dont do it for so many reasons. I cant name them all:
Anything could go wrong.the paint could bubble it could make faces.
I would not make A Corvette The First Car you paint thats Fiberglass.
Quick While you still have A JOB make up some lame excuse why you CANT paint his car .

I had the opposite happen. Boss wants me to paint his Mopar. Told him I wasn't painting anything for about a year to year and a half (knowing he wants it done this summer) because I have to set up half of the garage with plasitc (like a makeshift booth). Mainly because of some of the same reasons Lon Wayne is referring to. The Boss??? Nope, I'm out.

Auto Spra Strip or similar strippers which do not eat fiberglass are okay and safe. I used Auto Spra Strip with no problems.

There is no gel-coat on factory panels.

Stripper work fine with a little common sense. Media blasting in the wrong hands can do more damage then chemical stripping. Either way done right and you will be safe.
