Default Timing

Hello I'm a new member and not very fluent with motor talk. I have a '79 C3. The motor looks original but I am having trouble timing it. I was told that you time it on cylinder 1 but could only find the timing line on cylinder 3. ANY IDEAS???????

Have you read through this? It is a sticky on the C3 Tech section.

Also be sure to read Lars' discussion about verifying that the timing scribe on the balancer is aligned with the "0" mark on the timing chain cover when the vehicle is at #1 cylinder TDC compression stroke.

If your balancer has slipped you won't be able to time the car.
