I finished up the windshield frame Sunday afternoon. Here's a quick shot taken while waiting for the POR15 to dry. We finished separating the passenger side front fender and removed the headlights (Yeah, that's a PAIN!).

I'm thinking I should quit whining about all the work we have had completed on our '73. I am NOT a Patient person........ I could NEVER start for where you are with your Vette without having a nervous breakdown!

The rear exhaust panel (covering the stock exhaust openings) and front bumper cover both had a disclaimer that some "fitment" was required. Boy, was that an understatement! It took some significant tweaking to get those pieces on the car and lined up correctly.
Tami didn't like the high rise hood so we scored a stock hood (72 maybe?) from Craigslist. We had to work the hood surround a bit to make the lines right.

I had a list of about 45 things that I wanted to accomplish this weekend and we made it through about half of them. Still, I'm pretty satisfied. Another few hours this week/next weekend and we'll be ready for PAINT on Sept 18.

From the smallest part to the largest, we're trying to do a good job. After the sun sets, we've been working on some of the smaller items. Here's a shot of the license plate light.

Had a good time spraying some primer. I mixed the NASON 491-16 with hardener and spayed a couple light coats (HVLP gun set at 35 PSI). We'll get back on it this Friday - the hope is to finish all sanding and spray the sealer (422-23). Here's how it looks right now:

For your wife's sake (and yours) might I suggest some sidepipe covers. Got mine from Mid America.

As for the color and stripe, here is a firends car. It is the 2007 Z-06 Blue with the Baldwin Motion stripe.

Is that Brusier? That is my inspiration. It's also my PC wallpaper.

Nice build you have going on there. I'm following along now as I'm doing something similar with my 75 but it's not so much for my wife :-)

phildawg19 - We are going to run the L88 hood for now. The "stock" hood we picked up was for a 77 (78?) as the latch area was totally different and required far too much modification to work. I may change from the L88 style though after we get closer to an LSx swap

As for the color, it's from the Nason book -- Dark Blue, 5% metallic content. Their number 348 (if I remember correctly).

Default Still going

Interior assembly has been stalled tracking wiring issues. I had a 3 amp constant drain on the battery.

Problem 1.... Bubba had connected a ground circuit to the positive battery terminal on the starter. There was some damage to the harness.

Problem 2... Bubba had converted to HEI but did not replace the resistor (ignition) wire.

Problem 3... Bubba's feeble attempts to repair wiring problems were hidden by multiple layers of sticky black tape.

Problem 4... POR15 left on the chassis where grounding wires are to attach does not work well.

Problem 5... Those pin switches on the doors are a pain!

While not fussing with wiring, we disassembled and rebuilt the steering box. That plus all new bushings, ball joints, etc gives a tight and precise steering. Very nice!

Default A/C controls

With only a few things left to finish, I decided to tackle the A/C controls. Overspray, rust and general nastiness almost overwhelmed me. I took all of it apart and cleaned it thoroughly.
First, I primed the faceplate.
Then sprayed it with rattle can Krylon satin black (including the control wheels and the black plate behind the needles.
Then I used a very fine hobby brush and "Dazzling Metallic Elegant Finish" from Michaels to do the chrome edges.
Then sprayed the entire thing with clear.
After an hour of tedious reassembly, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Thats a lot of work, but it is looking good. Its the small time consuming parts that go into the detail, but end up saving a lot of money. Items like your license plate light, and the A/C controls clean up nice, look good, are original, and only cost a little time, and paint.

Nice documentation of what has been done.

Your progress is looking great!

With all your Bubba wiring problems I would suggest you think about investing in a new wiring harness. Take a look at Lectric Limited.

I installed a new engine and A/C harness in my 73 and it was worth every penny.
