Default Which year fuel door assembly is this.

I know that the fuel door changed in 71. This is certainly not a pre 71 fuel door.

Which year(s) is it?

I never knew that the door changed. Thought they were all the same through 77. Learn something new all the time. What was the change?

I think that 71-77 were the same, and that does look right.

Yup, they changed. But that looks correct for a 71 as far as the door frame and spring. Not sure on the door cause we can't see the emblem

That's a 71-77 assembly. The doors are all the same, except for the location of the holes for the emblem. There were 4 different doors; 71-73, 74, 75-76 & 77. 74's had no holes in them as there was no emblem on 74 gas doors. From the looks of all the holes in that door, it's had a 71-73, 75-76 and/or a 77 emblem on it at one point or another!

That's right. It had a 69 cross flag emblem on it when I bought it. I removed the emblem to strip it and discovered the rest of the holes.

Isn't the ring different for 68, 69-71, 72-77, 78-79 and 80-82?

Run the GM part number on the underside of the door.

68-70's all had a spring, but it's not like the one on the 71 up door assembly. You can not see the spring on the 68-70 assembly without looking very hard for it. The spring is riveted to the underside of the chrome bezel, at the front by the hinge. It is actually just a piece of spring steel with 2 tabs bent into it. When the door is openned, the tabs squeeze the hinge, to hold the door open. The spring is often missing from 68-70 doors assemblies. It was held to the casting by two "rivets" that are cast into the bezel and peened over to retain the spring. I expect that many of them were pulled off the bezel, when the door was closed.

Good info GB.

Here's some pictures if anyone is interested.

Best shot I could get of one of the rivets.

In this one you can see the tab GB spoke of along withe the rivet.

And finally the tabs squeezing the hinge to hold the door open.
