Garage Mishap Fixed!
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a thread describing a mishap in my garage. A piece of homebrewing equipment fell off a shelf and put several deep scratches in my Vette's front fender. Here's the "Before" shot:
It's hard to see, but there was a deep scratch above the Stingray emblem and two deep scratches on the peak of the fender. Here's the "After" shot:
Here's the cool part of the story....I just had a Maaco paint job on it (like $1300 total). The body shop wanted $800 to fix the damage. I fixed it myself, in the garage for $85! I used rattle can (!) paint from a web site called www.paintworldinc.com. The paint is high quality Dupont. I spot primed, shot the base coat, and then cleared it. I cleared the quarter panel behind the wheel and blended it above the wheel arch and the top of the fender where it peaks. Then I used 1500 grit paper, and Turtle Wax rubbing compound. The color match is perfect (it is a stock GM color), and the clear buffed out really nice. I'm very happy with the results. You really cannot tell where the damage was.

Hope you enjoyed a beverage from the home brewing equipment after a great job like that. It's nice to know you can fix stuff like that yourself isn't it? I'm sure I could not do the same.

Hi T72,
I remember your earlier post.... home brewing equipment!!
It looks like your repair turned out really well.
I'll bet you feel a lot better and at a reasonable price.
Regards,
Alan
