Default '70 ZR1 thru the gears: video clip test

Kinda lags, but you'll get the idea. Steer with knees, gas, shift, video, repeat...

Don't try this at home!

Note the M22 whine rise with the 456:1 posi and solids singing. Will get a better video up soon...

That M22 whine is classic, I have never heard it before, only about it.

Great car, next time bring a passenger so we can see more video!

Yup, you need a passenger. The car sounds great! By the way, be sure not to text while driving

Your vette sounds great, Glenn is correct, it was just a tease. Please do a longer video, we would all enjoy it.

My co-pilot was in the car but has a hard time seeing over the dash - he's 5. This was leaving the vintage races near Seattle this pas summer.

Pacific raceways is one of the west coasts oldest tracks and has hosted 50+ years of Corvette, SCCA, Trans AM, etc. racing. As part of the car corral, we were allowed to take 3 parade laps around the course. The organizers do an excellent job at the races, and safety is key. That said, the parade laps do allow a driver to get the feel of the course, and I admit that 6500 RPM comes up awful fast when you poke it on the backside of an apex and are closing in on another!

Driving this car on the course definitely got my blood racing, and committed to fully restore and exercise the ZR1 as it was intended by Zora himself. Too much fun.

PS- After the 3 laps on the track at high RPM, my 5 y/o asked if we won the race. I couldn't lie. Of course we did.

Nice sound - but it seems like much sound but little fury. That's the problem with a small block and drag ratios like a 4.56. You were revving near 6k (and by the way, your tach has a problem bouncing around like that - you need to fix that) and only going about 85-90 MPH. Was that only through 3rd gear when the film stops? Top gear should get you to about 105 mph in 4th (at 6K rpm).

Just glad they put 6 speeds in later Corvettes.

This is a great posting. Sounds great.

I have one question. What the crap was the car that got on the road ahead of you??

As hard as you hammered your ZR1 , You never caught the car in front of you.

You were at ~ 90 MPH and did not catch up to that car.

Please post more

Yeah - with 456's, 1st gear is next to worthless unless you're going for a hole-shot with sticky tires and can manage the spin or you're on a super tight auto-cross course. The video would show a different ride with If I'd had two hands and two feet steering, shifting and punching the pedals. My boy (co-pilot) was exhausted from the day - and was fast asleep in his car seat... I didn't want to scare the crap out of him and induce case of whiplash when slapping second!

The car is unrestored, 40k miles but has been ridden hard - so a full resto is in order - including the tach. Luckily, all the original ZR1 HD components/drivetrain are still in the car, sans the original shocks.

I'm not sure I would restore the car. There's something about the patina of an unrestored original. As long as the car is presentable (and driveable), I'd stick with it as is.

Could be a possible benchmark car.

bb62,

I've seen the car. It should be restored.
