I agree with a previous post, if an 80 is your preference, than go for it! It's about rescueing a classic.
Personally, I preferred the early C3's, but that's me. While I am a "Corvette guy"(or consider myself to be), my focus has always been with the "muscle car" era. That is, I focus/prefer cars primarily from 65-71 in my taste. Nothing moves me more than seeing a GTO Judge, an SS396, or a 69 Z28 at a car show. It was an era of corporate bragging rights, HP, looks and style, and pre-gov't regulation. Again, that's my personal preference. I don't want to start a "my 77 is better than your..." post, because the C3 style was so popular(and attractive of course), it continued for over a decade, and that says a lot!
Again, if this is the era/year of vette that moves you, than it's your choice.

I have an '80 with the L82 and love the car. Used to own a '68 and the difference driving it is night and day. Where the '68 was rough and raw, the '80 is very smooth and rattle free. While I have always liked the chrome bumper cars, I also think the '80-82 style is right up there as perfect C3 styling. When I was looking for one last year to drive while my '64 is being restored, I looked specifically at '80's since they were the last year without the computer, and the last year for the L82 engine option. The car is no big block rocket, but it has plenty of power and is a very smooth running car.

If you are interested in mine, let me know. It has 31xxx original miles (have paperwork documenting), performance cat with new y-pipe and stainless mufflers, VB&P fiberglass rear spring, Bilsteen shocks, and a complete new power steering system (I saved the original cat and rear spring). It was repainted about 2-3 years ago and looks outstanding, although there is a spot in the front bumper that needs to be fixed. It is dark claret red, with a dark red interior - great looking combo. Has a/c, power locks, power windows, tilt/tele, rear defrost, Sony CD player, auto (all L82's had auto), gymkana suspension, t-top carrying case.

I have an 80 and love it. Not that I wouldn't love to have a 69 big block vert, but the beautiful thing about the 80 is you can modify to you liking without losing market value. That is another opinion for you.

I would say if the car doesn't speak to you, walk away from it.
I like every generation corvette ,but I don't like every corvette.
When you look at the car you should be able to tell at first glance
if it's worthy of your time and money. What are you looking for, a
classic, a daily driver, or a street rod, this will help you when you
spot the one that most fits the bill, don't settle for anything less
or you will feel as if you have wasted your time and money.

I have an 80, L/82. I am currently repainting the car. It is totally stock and It will be my daily driver.
I also have a totally modified (mortified) 80 Corvette Daytona.
Its like everyone has said, if it moves you go for it, if not, pass it by.
