What's the story behind the chrome bumpers on the rear & the rubber on the front?

Unique to 1973......trying to comply with the new (at that time) 5 mph bumper rule.

Nice project, have fun with it and be sure to post plenty of pics as you go along. As Alan said, it always nice to see what someone else is working on.

they are from what i can gather from the 70's i have a set of torq thrust 2 on order just waiting for them to arrive.

and believe it or not the tires are actually in good shape. only one has any sign of dry rot.

the gas cap and the rest of the car is going to be repainted hopefully this winter if time/money allow it.

i am doing some preventitive maint on the car this week just to make sure everything is good. did an oil change, lubed all the grease fittings, putting new belts in and some other little stuff.

I just ordered a full weather strip kit from metro super soft for the whole car. and when i go to carlile im going to be looking for a couple things for the car. it needs a trim piece for the rear air defroster. the a piller interior is rough at the top and the underside of the front bumper is broken where the previous owner hit a curb with it.

even with the old tires it drives great but i have just been driving around town out of caution since i havent had a chance to really go over the car yet.

lucky for me i live pretty close to the corvette shop in new york so i have someone that does awesome work close to do the body and paint work

it was a partial restore i picked up with the motor, trans, interior (minus seats) done. it needs body work and paint and some overall clean up on the chome and some detail work in the engine bay.

it is a 454 m21 car and still has the original of both in the car. the interior was replaced with a correct interior as far as i know.

im the 3rd owner according to carfax and the first owner owned it untill 2000

Tires do expire and become unsafe to drive on weather you can tell by looking or not.

Look at all the trouble ford had with the wilderness a/ts' a few years ago.

Tires were blowing out and killing people left and right.

Please look into this for yourself and dont' take my word for it.

For the time being, dont' go faster than 45mph on those "Ancient" tires!

yea the car is on jack stands now and prob will be there till the new rims and tires show up at the end of the month.

tires life is actually only about 4 years. there was a big news article on it on the car forum i used to visit. and whats sad is alot of local retailers were found to be selling tires 7 and 8 years old becasue they were still instock.

hmmm very interesting fact i just found. the trim tag has the exterior color listed as silver but the red paint job is so true to a factory paint job that im wondering if it was resprayed or stamped wrong. even the strip at the back of the hood that is left black shows no silver or surface red overspray. very interesting. im gunna be doing some digging i think

Factory paint does not bubble like what you have, it has been painted.
The factory paint checks.

Anyway good project keep those 73's alive.
