Default Early or Late 69

I have a 69 Vert. The VIN decode revealed it was assembled in April of 1969 (coincidentally my birth month). Is that considered early or late? I would think late, because that would be toward the end of the production year for 69. I need to know so I can purchase weatherstrip.

69's were built for 16 months, from Sept 68-Dec 69 due to the strike. April falls right in the middle, 8th production month. So not sure what it would be considered.

Not sure it is considered early. Mine has a build date of Jan 30/Feb1, and from what I can determine is considered "early". It had the larger drum (about 6" long) vacuum can for the wiper door assy on it which is considered an 'early' design compared to the shorter vacuum canister (about 3 - 4 inches long). Someone else may have a different opinion, but if you have the larger cannister, I'm guessing it would be an early version, smaller cannister would make it a later version. I'll let one of the experts chime in.

There are all kinds of crazy variations into 70 parts on the late built 69's; very fun stuff

This question gets asked all the time. The car build date rarely has anything to do with early or late style part. A better name would be 'first and second style' parts. Changes were introduced throughout the production run, not all at the same time. Someone may know when GM changed over from one style to the other on this specific part.

Best way to get the correct part is to figure out what is on your car now, assuming it is original. Call the vender ask what the difference in early, late, and with 69 maybe mid part, then buy what matches yours. The other option is to buy the NCRS Technical Information and Judging Manual. It gives vin ranges for most parts changes.
