Default Courtesy light flicker...

This was a problem years ago, I parked it and had forgotten about it until I started driving it again to iron the kinks out of all the new parts. While driving the courtesy lights will flash intermittently and sometimes stay on after turning the key off. I am suspecting the door switches are grounding. Am I on the right track and how can I diagnose which is the culprit?

Thanks..
Eric

Eric-

Your on the right track and I think I would consider just replacement. They are to easy to install.

You can remove the old switches and see which one is failing, but I would suspect this is your problem.

The switches use the door jamb for ground when the plunger is extended causing the circuit to be completed. Take one out of the jamb and keep it away from any source of ground and see if the problem persists. If so, put it back and take the other one out.

There is one other part to this circuit and that is the light switch. The rheostat dims the courtesy lights and turns them on and off. There could be a problem with the rheostat. It is a spiral piece of wire that may be broken and one end bouncing around making ground contact.

The d/s pin switch was the culprit on my 68 but I replaced both just for peace of mind.

Good point! It could have something to do with the headlamp switch!

CC, I'm sorry Victor called me today and no connector!

Thanks for checking Willcox. If you ever do get a complete used 72 engine harness please let me know.

Thanks guys for the starting point. It would be nice to actually cross things off my list of problems without others cropping up.
