High Speed Runway 1 mile Shootout INTEREST
Im coordinating with my Base Vice Commander and a few other higher ups to try and organize a High Speed Runway Shootout 1 mile run for the east coast and am trying to get together a list of interested parties and everything.
Background:
This will take place in OHIO
The runway that would be in use is Toledo Express Airport's 10,600 foot long main runway.
There would be camera crews out there shooting for a dvd and also radar equipment to see how fast you do a standing mile and also 1/4 mile times too.
on the BAX ramp we might have auto x if there is enough interest.
also there will be a huge car show and possibly a few F-16's out on display for everyone to see.
There are plenty of Hotels in the Toledo, Bowling Green, OH area
There will be plenty of food and refreshements for everyone and should be a fun time for the family if they tag along also.
i will add more details as the interest is shown and will be coordinating everything as i go.
This wouldnt be until july or august 2010 at the earliest as i want this to get big and have alot of coordinating to do with higher up Air Force.
Fees and everything will come at a later time also.
Hoping to see alot of people there with some nice cars and hopefully alot of vettes.
This is also an announcement so people can start on their cars for this fun time. DVD's will be made and will be available after also.
This will be an allday event.
Here is a started list as far as interest goes. Any names and interest will help this cause as all proceeds are going to multiple charities. a list of charities will be posted later.

pre registering will prolly be around $50 for the whole event and thats running your car and showing. or $10 for just the show. Probably be around $75 day of the event or something. This pricing of course will most likely be tweaked
im working on vendors
i think these prices are good for the event and for the cause too.
more info will come as i get it and everything
i will also line up hotels for people wanting to stay over night and out of towners.
im also going to see about setting up a cruise in for that night too

safety requirements will depend on the power and speed the car is making and lots of other factors.
There will be different MPH classes and everything
im getting the interest now to present to higher up
to use this runway is going to take a lot of planning and planning something this far out and getting organization will make this a bigger show and a bigger hit and if there is enough interest then we are going to try and do it semi annually or annually

i will prolly let people on with no cages too. each car will run by itself anyways.
the runway is 10,600 ft long x 150 ft wide
there will be no stupidness. People being stupid will be escorted off the property. i want this to be safe and fun.
Might even do a burnout contest too
Once i get a final date hopefully shortly i will post it so that everyone can mark it on their calenders

Safety Car
The insurance co. you chose will determine that. Alot can happen just with one car going straight, and if you teched it and said they were good to go, guess who's on the hook when the sharks (lawyers) move in? YOU are. Military base or not will not shield you from legal flak. East Ohio Region of NCCC has a bunch of guys that might want to play with something like this.

Or another way is to get SCCA invoved. They have their own insurance (I think K&K also) and are set up for doing classes for multiple brands of cars.
I would be interested in the autocross (and probably the mile too) if it doesn't conflict with my autocross schedule.

ttt, keep the interest coming. Im seeing quite a bit of interest so far
Im going to be going down to the texas mile in Oct and am going to be in contact with SCCA and other organizations to see about getting ideas from them and see if anyone of them would want to help out with the event and everything
Safety will be of the upmost important and the biggest concern for this event

Bonnett, this is only going to mean one thing...a CBT on the dangers of car racing...required bi-annually. Unless you're in the Guard...maybe they escape the CBT madness.
P.S. Sounds like a fun event!

the guard has nothing to do with this anymore. i am going all through the commercial/civilian side for everything now. might turn this into a 2 or 3 day event with a window for the runway which im counting on will happen now.
i have over 100 people on here interested.
keep them coming
im hoping with enough advertisment that i can get 1000-1500 cars for this event, especially if it is a whole weekend event

I like the idea very much, tho my shark won't be up and running this season.
In addition to the SCCA, K&K, et al, you might also want to talk to the East Coast Timing Association about how they run their events (see the August '09 Hot Rod). Of course, it should go without saying that demanding execution of comprehensive release/liability waiver forms is going to be a must, but Captain Obvious wouldn't have me leave that unsaid.
Here's hoping this becomes a regular event.
