I perfer manual. not as much tq/hp loss through the drive train. to me a sports car is not a sports car with an automatic it's a gt car like our jaguars.

then strokers, blowers, carburetors, intakes, heads, camshafts ect. dont belong either. Why? Because those aforementioned parts are to make a Vette go faster {if done correctly} and if thats the purpose then you will need a "automatic" to make sure your money wasn`t wasted on a 'cruise queen' that cant get out of its own way.....

I can't imagine my Suburban with a manual, but just as well I can't imagine my '79 with an Automatic. Sometimes I miss automatic on the Vette because it's more comfortable in traffic jams, but shifting a manual is actually pretty cool and the engine sounds you can pull out of there with a manual are better, too!

my 1st was a 70 4 speed 454. this one is an automatic. only thing that mattered to me was it had to be a BIG BLOCK. doesnt matter if its a 4 speed or automatic if it doesnt have the power to snap your neck.

If your leg is broke...... Auto. If not test your driving skills and put a stick in it. I have never owned an automatic. In 1972 I passed on buying a 69SS BB camaro all original 25.000 miles for $1800.00 at a used car lot, because it was an automatic. Bought a 68SS BB 4speed chevelle with 31.000 miles the same day for $1400.00. No Regrets. If you aint rowing, you aint going. Have fun with your new vette.

Automatics are just fine but 4, 5 or 6 speeds are quite a substantial step above when it comes to a more interactive and precise driving experience. For me it also comes down to an audible driving experience. Go listen to some automatics zip through a few gears from the starting line and then once you hear how much better the manual tranny cars sound progressing through the gears you won't be asking this question ever again.

Hey people. I have a 4 speed in my 57 chevy, and in the city, all I d0 is shift gears. one stoplight to another. When I built my 82 vette, I decided to cruise instead of shift. It depends what you want to do, shift or cruise??? I like them both, but I drive the vette more than my 57, which is not enough in either of them. Good Luck and have a lot of Fun. Doctorgene
