Are you going to tell us what your personal interest in this sale is?

People who start threads specifically to interfere with a sale of a car have had personal interest and/or exposure to the seller. Doesn't mean it's wrong, but don't pretend you have no relationship.

actually the right lawyer can find a way to litigate damages also.. too bad one can't do this on EBAY... buyers need all the information they can get...

How do you know what you know? Do you know owner? Have you inspected this car? Did you own this car? Heard you say "restamp" and "can't read casting date". You need to BACK IT UP if you want anyone to listen...

burn me the first time, shame on me
burn someone else the next time shame on me again for not starting this thread

I believe anyone selling any car that has had a restamped engine should disclose that fact.

Anyone disagree?

It depends, its not illegal. What if he restamped the motor because the engine had to be surface during rebuild. Lots of reasons.

So are you the guy that bought it the first time? Whats the real story.

Small world, a friend of mine has the 68 GTO (644.2) that is right before this car. This car will go early on Saturday. I will have to find it on Friday and take a look at it out of curiosity.

I agree. The path this country is going down, I have very little trust in an item for sale that claims to be for real. Buyer Beware, and CYA.

unfortunately, there are alot of cars "out there" that have re=stamped engines.......plenty of the higher dollar cars/low production/high horse power cars at BJ are no exception! my feeling is this: if they didn't change the car from what it was originally (like re-stamp a 390hp car and change it to a 435hp suffix) then i don't believe it is being deceptive nor do i think that they should have to disclose this info. many of the original blocks have been lost by now. and the way i look at it they are simply "restoring" the car back to original condition, not much different than putting in new trailing arms, or replacing rusted sections of the original frame. if they state that it is "numbers matching" at this point, i believe that is an accurate statement. however if they imply "original" motor, that is deceptive, and should be illegal. also bogus docs should be illegal also, such as POP, window stickers or tank sheets. They call it "matching numbers." They don't call it restamp.. That's just one reason why the term "matching numbers" means nothing to me, and should mean nothing to you too.

We have seen more than a few cars go through Barrett Jackson auction with questionable authenticity. People think BJ carefully inspects these cars for authenticity... Don't count on it.

One guy bought a 1970 "370 hp" smallblock vette with bigblock hood, LT-1 emblems, stripes.....
and an automatic transmission.

And that's all "matching numbers" means: they match, Restamp or not. Its about time more people understood that.

And people shouldnt count on BJ to do their research for them. Its not their job. They dont carefully inspect anything, nor should they. Its unfortunate if people think they do.

A number of good points have been made in this thread about what "numbers matching" really means. I know that recreating and weathering window stickers and build sheets is a current practice. I am not sure where I read it but a individual mentioned buying a car and then very luckily advertising for and finding the original numbers matching engine a couple hundred miles away. Ya buddy!!!!! Some folks are just lucky.
