Hi everyone, I purchase a set of Hedman headers 1.5 years ago and now I try to install them on my 72, the engine heads are dart iron DRT-10121111.
I have a problem with the right side (passenger side), I can't bolt it on because it touching the frame.
I measured the two sides and they have the same angels & length but the outlet pipe go to different direction, one for the right side and the other to the left side, but I think they should be different because the engine don't seat in the center of the frame it ~1" to the right side of the frame and the exhaust head outlet in the right side are ~1" backward from the left side.
Does anyone have this problem with Hedman headers HED-68286 or
HED-68280?
How I can open the bottom angel without making any damage?

Are you using poly motor and or trans mount? I had a similar problem, turned out to be poly motor and trans mounts. I switched to stock and headers fit fine.

I have a set of Hedman side dumps just like that. Stock mounts, the headers fit just fine....

Thanks, I need to check what engine mount I bought, the trans' mount I got with the new 200R4 from Bowtie so I need to ask them what type they supply.
Where I can fined stock engine mounts?

I checked what engine mount I have, it's from Paragon:
Paragon Number: 2357
GM Part Number: 2267
Engine mount, safety type. Import.
Years 1970 - 1982
Type: Stock
The trans' mount is rubber and it's lower from the original by 1/4"
I checked also the frame engine mount height on both sides and they are equal.
Can someone measured the right side header like I show in the pic' so I can compare if the header is my problem (Hedman headers HED-68286 or HED-68280). ), I measured from near the 6 exhaust out let to the middle of the edge of the 3" outlet = 16 1/4".

The problem is solved.
I break in the engine couples days ago, I used the old manifolds and exhaust system,
and release the engine mounts.
I tried after that to install the header and it go in place but still very close to the frame about 1/4".

Man I hope you are not test running that engine with the trans dry, You will fry the clutches. I see no driveshaft installed

Don't worry I filled up the converter with 1/3 gallon when I install it and after that filled the trny with ~3 gallon of oil before the break in.
The trans' yoke was inside to prevent leaks and the gear was at park position.

FYI

I have a ZZ4 and the exhaust ports are a fraction of an inch higher than stock (so I'm told). I used these same headers with stock motor mounts and they did fit. However, the passenger side header contacted the zerk fitting on the bottom of the idler arm. I had to change the zerk fitting from a straight style to one with a 90 degree turn (reduced the length of the zerk fitting) and then dimpled the header tube a little for room to get the grease gun in there.

My zerk fitting on the bottom of the idler arm is very close (~1/3") to the passenger side header, so I will change it to 90* zerk.
