Matt/Satin Black C3 Pics?
Hi all,
I have been toying with the idea of going with satin black paint, I think it would look good contrasting with the chrome bumpers, 17 and 18" TTII's and stainless side pipes.
Just wondering if anyone has pics of their matt or satin black C3's (I think 'Panic's car is matt or satin black) any others?
Cheers

I've been looking for the same pics. I kind of think it would look better with black side pipes and black wheels. Can't really find any though. The pics of Panic's car aren't shown anymore when I do a search.

Being a painter for over 33 years, I don't like the flat or matte paint finishes. Personally, I think it was the brain child of a painter that wasn't worth a **** at painting gloss colors, cuz anybody can paint flat/matte finish. JMHO

Beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder.
When my '70 ZR1 was flat black for a while between paint jobs it drew considerably more positive comments (not to mention that the number of punks who messed with me went to nil), than when it was all shiny. Had all the chrome bits and trim on it, but if I were to do the flat/matte/satin thing on purpose I'd likely black out most everything. Otherwise, it could all too easily look like an unfinished project no matter how good the finish (yes, there's a difference between a poor and a quality flat paint job). Also, IMHO black pipes and wheels happen to work for more than just black cars.
To each his own.
edit - found panic's pics. Enjoy...

I'm thinking about painting my 82 matte black..it would look better all matte black...even the chrome around the windows. Maybe brushed aluminum on the rocker panels and wheels

I painted mine myself, for the exact reason that it would be easy to spray for a first-timer and still look bad-*** (in my opinion). I also love the glossy look, but I'm looking to get into painting/detailing, and I figured it would be a good first attempt at painting while still getting the experience of doing all the prep-work and spraying myself.
That said, I have to respray many panels this spring

weve all heard about the flat black stealth supercar running by the cops at unimaginable speeds with no lights on, who knows if its true but that sounds awesome for a vette. not to mention it looks horrible if its done shotty, but if its done nice it looks awesome and attracts lots of attention. when i show people around my house pics of vettes there like yeah thats nice and when i show them panics vette they say its the baddest vette ive ever shown them

The matte finish definitely provides a unique style that I can understand how is appealing, however, to me looks like is still in primer and unfinished. I see how some would like it though cause kinda adds a "road-warrior" type of character to the car.

Point is, start doing what ya wanna do, get good as you go. You should see the first flame paint job I did on a 73 Honda 750 (I think anyway). It was horrible. I make just a few more pennies now.
I do hope that no one is offended by my "Idon't like flat paint" comment, that's just an old painter's opinion. I painted literaly thousands of gallons of flat aircraft paint.
Just do it

I know I am necro posting here, but since my Vette is up for a paintjob soon, are there any other flat black Vettes out there? I LOVE the look, regardless of what others think. I would like to throw in some glossy areas like around the hood for effect and diminish the "unfinished" look, but curious if there are others out there?

I, like most folks, love Panic's car but I think it pulls the look off because it looks like a bad *** racer. I wonder if it would look unfinished on a driver/show car?
If I were going to do partial flat/glossy, I think I would make the car glossy with some flat parts. It could look cool, different, and on the hood practical, but still look like a finished car.
As always.. in the end it comes down to what you wanna make of the car that will make you happy.
