Just for fun-What were your first cars?
I'll start.
I always loved cars and as a kid took everything apart to see how it worked. Didn't always get it back together though, or there was a leftover part, but that was the fun of it.
My first was a 66 Buick Special vert. Had the 300 aluminum block w/2 speed powerglide. Was in the family since new and was given to me when I was 18, in summer of 1977.
Next was a 68 Buick Skylark vert, cost 900 bucks, that I wanted to restore but never got to do it. Bought it when I was 20. Replaced the engine with junkyard engine and a block & tackle looped over a tree branch at night. Had it for 5 years.
Next was a 69 Impala vert I had for 10 years, had painted twice, replaced the tranny, and replaced the engine with a Nice 325 Hp motor from McBetts racing on Long Island, N.Y.. My brother was clocked doing 120 in Ohio by a State trooper helicopter and eventually was pulled over. He told me there was plenty of power left, wasn't even close to being floored! I think the ticket was 200 bucks!
Then 20 years later the 70 Vette I have now. (No speeding tickets )
Here's some pics.

Ha, no, I just set the cruise control and just kept pushing Accel until I felt I was going a good speed for the long night drive home. No other cars, and the speedo was maxed at 85 so I had no idea how fast I was going. I mathematically figured out that based on the time it took me to get from exit to exit I was going 140.
It was a surprisingly fast car. Plenty of power for how heavy I thought it was.

1990 sunbird LE with 150k miles on it. every panel rusted or dinged. fastest i ever had it upto was about 85, at that point it started shaking so violently i had to back off.
4 years later, ive still got the car actually. blew a head gasket and cracked in heads last year though, so now its waiting to be hauled off for scrap metal.

Cool thread, Glenn.
My first car was when I was 13, split it with my 16 year old brother. It was a 1964 Oldsmobile F85 (aka The Green Bomb) with the 300 ci forged crank motor. It cost a grand total of $120!
Being under the legal driving age didn't stop me...I did endless loops behind the house, and occasionally took it on the streets until...
The back brakes were shot, which made for easy standing burnouts. One day, I was coming down a steep hill, had no brakes at all at the bottom, wild high speed LEFT turn so I wouldn't flip, just missed being t-boned. Drove the car from there to the high school and handed my bro the keys. I didn't drive on the road again until I had my learner's permit. {bring me my brown pants}
That got the Olds blood going in me, I've had about 10 Cutlasses, currently have a '68 vert, a '70 4-spd vert, and a '70 442 Sport Coupe.

Since I have already come clean on my VW past, no harm in admitting that my first car was a 1969 Beetle, beige in color. I bought it from the second owner in 1986 for $500 because he couldn't get the horn to work and he couldn't get it through PA inspection without the horn. I laughed at the time, thinking I could fix that damn horn in 10 minutes. Luckily, I registered it in NJ where a non-working horn was a "non-fail" violation because 2 years later, after an engine change and about 50,000 more miles on it than when I bought it, I wrecked it on a rainy night with the horn still not working. I pulled the motor out and some of the other good pieces on the car and sent the hulk to the junkyard, that was not one of my better days
It really was a good car, horn or not.

1965 Dodge Dart - 225 slant 6 - automatic - AM radio and a back seat that smelled like pee after my buddies caught it on fire smoking cigarettes in the middle of a desert .... you can't make this stuff up!
My Dad ended up putting a Ford rear end in it after I twisted the spider gears out of the original rear end three times. Those 225's had just enough torque to power brake and leave black marks for the length of the driveway. The rear end was good for about three passes before the spider gears gave up.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the body looked like it had been attacked by a ball peen hammer after a Montana hail storm...

I graduated in 1987 and was lucky enough to talk my parents into buying me a brand new Buick Regal Grand National. They had no idea it was a fast car. I knew a Corvette was out of the question (too expensive), so I opted for a cool looking modern day musclecar. I worked while in college and saved for a Corvette. I finally bought my dream car when I graduated college in 1992 - a beautiful white/black C4 (1st year of 'new' 300hp LT1 engine). And so my obsession began !

Burning Brakes
Mine was a 1966 Chrysler Newport, 2 door hardtop with 383/2bbl. We named it "the tank". It could hold 8 of us easy, fastest I had it was about 120 going downhill. I stepped up to a 1971 Monte Carlo custom next, black on black, bucket seats (I still have the seats in my basement). I sold it to a buddy who 3 weeks later wrapped it around a 18" pine tree. Drove the tree through the right headlight all the way up to the windshield. He survived luckily. I wish I had that car back now. The same buddy then went a bought a 68 impala SS 396 auto, convertable, black on black. Last I heard he still had it, but I lost contact with him. I wish I had that car now too.
Those were the days...the cops didn't like me much when I had the Monte...

My first car was a 52 chevy maroon two door in 75. A lot of kids at school was driving there daddys cadi's or they had trans-ams.
I paid 300.00 while working at a gas station ( full service) If that car could talk I would be in trouble.

Swapped stock gears & 4.56 posi. Would take GTOs etc. w/ the stock gears. Stiffer front springs allowed it to handle!
57 coupe Street legal Race 427 bored, 2 4s, tunnel ram, solid lifter cam, magneto, 4 speed Hurst, slicks, etc. Only have a few pics.- too busy racing etc...

My first car was a light green 1971 Ford LTD 2-door with a 400cu. in. engine. The darn bench seat was so wide that I could lay down completely between the doors - comes in handy it was a great car -- eventually I had to get rid of it after the rear springs' brackets rusted and the springs exploded up thru the trunk floor.
My second car was a 1976 Dodge Charger -- what a rust bucket. Nothing seemed to work on that car.

This is going to date me but here we go. 1950 Oldsmobile two door holiday coupe. Purchased in 1955 and wanted the glamor of a V8 and fancy car but it was worn out and I did not have the money to keep fixing it. Soon got a better job and bought a new 1956 Chevy Bel Air Coupe with power pack engine and had fun. Bought my first Corvette a 1957 270hp black/red interior with both tops. What a car and wish I still had it.

Wow! I had'nt thought about the first car in along time!
At age 16,dad offered to add me to the list of approved drivers for the station wagen he leased for my sisters to use. An orange, 1972,Olds cutlass vista cruiser station wagon (looking back, it was a cool wagon) - but no,I had to have my own car.
This was fine with him - I could then carry all of it - tax and insurance as well.
"It'' turned out to be a 1968 Pontiac GTO,Black exterior with red interior.
400 ci,4 speed,4 barrel carb.
Loud.
Power brakes,no power steering,no A/C,no power windows.
The am/fm was out of an oldsmobile -under dash 8-track added later.
Bought it in September 1974 for $400 - (2 summers worth of lawn mowing), pulled the motor out in a neighbors barn with a block and tackles for rebuild, added header/short pipes, drove the duuky out of it when possible and finally sold it for $400 in September 1975.
That was one fun car.
I know of only 1 picture to have been taken of that unit,if I find it,I'll post it.

1947 Ford Coupe, 1947 Ford 2dr. 1956 Ford Sunliner convertible, 1958 Chevy Impala convertible, 1966 GTO convertible, just to name a few. But the first car I ever owned was not a car at all and I wish I still owned it was a 1947 Harley knucklehead with a suicide shifter that I bought when I was 15.

First car was a 1966 Mustang coupe, black with red interior. It had the 200ci straight 6 with a 3 speed. Bought it in 1980 and sold it two years later. Owned seven more Mustangs after that.
First Corvette was my '01 coupe purchased new in May of '01.
