My first car was a 1949 Ford Custom 2 dr coupe. Unfortunately it had a flathead 6 cylinder instead of the flathead V-8. That Ford came with the customary 3 speed with the shifter on the column and the mandatory car dice knitted by the girlfriend. Man am I old!! My next car was the keeper. It was a 53 Ford convertible with a 3 speed and overdrive for 2nd and 3rd. What a cool car to tool around San Francisco in the 50s. Wish I still had that one.

2019 C3 of Year Finalist (stock)
First car was a 1965 Impala SS, 283 4speed car. Beige with a red leather interior. Sold it in 1978 with 29,000 miles, still kicking myself.

Melting Slicks
1957 Chevy 210 post 283 PG followed by a 1955 Plymouth Savoy flat head 6 with a manual tranny. Next came a plethora of makes and models. 1960 Oldsmobile Super 88, 1953 Chevy Belair 2 dr hardtop, 1955 Belair, 1958 Belair, 1963 Biscayne 2 dr post (a favorite of mine), 1946 Dodge Deluxe sedan, 1959 Vauxhall, 1965 Bonneville 2 dr ht, 1966 Pontiac Tempest Covertible I built and installed a hot 389, 1959 Morris Minor Panel Truck, 1948 Plymouth 2 dr sedan, 3 different 1953 Chevy pickups, 1968 Dodge Polaris Wagon, 1962 Dodge Dart, 1946 ****** CJ2A Jeep, 1968 Chevelle SS396, 1968 Chevelle Malibu, 1970 428 Super CobraJet Mach1 Mustang 4 speed Drag Pack, Several Volkwagons.
In 1983 I sat down and counted as many cars as I could remember and figured out I had owned over 200 cars in my first fifteen years of driving. I have since lost count. This doesn't count the large number of Motorcycles I have had, most being Harleys.
To say I have been a car nut wouldn't quite describe it.

Funny You Should Ask
My Dad bought me this 1954 Ford and I customized it with "Jimmy Jones" skirts, {the first bubble with a belly skirts} Frenched and leaded 56 Olds tail lights, door handles, trunk and hood. The 239 OHV was replaced with a 56 T Bird 312 and the Fordomatic was scrapped for the T Bird standard 3 speed. AND, I still have it....
Then he bought me this one. 57 Super 88, Solid black, J-2, standard 3 speed that was changed to a 4 speed with the GM floor shifter. It also had a set of 'Jones" shirts from the door to the rear bumper. The 371 CI engine then got a E2 Iskenderian camshaft. A very rare Olds. I still have the batwing air cleaner and it looks as if new. This I should have kept. ....Then I went to FI Vettes...

My first car was a 1958 thunderbird. It was red with red interior. I wish I still had that car. My next one was a 1957 ford retractable hard top, and I wish I had that one too.

1979 Chevy Monza Spider. Originally had a 305 - a little over a year later had a healthy LT1 which demanded updated cooling, new rear end, reinforced front frame, etc, etc....
In short, my first money pit
But obviously not my last

My first car was a 1967 Firebird, bought in 1977. A fast car with a 400 under the hood, 4-speed, functional hood scoops. Stolen in 1983 , otherwise I would still have it.

Burning Brakes
1954 Ford tudor sedan with a 1957 thunderbird 312 motor and a three speed trans. Paid $50.00 dollars for it. It surprised a lot of chevys on the old quarter mile road just outside of town. Tore up a lot of three speeds with wheel hop. Kept tearing up the homemade traction bars too. Other than that it was basically unsafe.

Mine was a 1981 Mustang with a 4-cyl and slushbox. It was a brownish gold color with ugly brown interior. It was a very clean and well-preserved specimen though, that didn't last for long as I didn't know anything about caring for a car. I drove it as fast as I could and changed the oil about once a year.
Also I didn't really give a rat's A$$ about it, I was mildly upset that my Dad had given my older sister a 1967 Mustang with a completely hand-rebuilt 289 repainted in fire-engine red and a good black interior, and here I was with this grocery-getter. Wasn't even the hatchback which at least would have been versatile with all the crap you sometimes have to cart around in school.
Note to other prospective 1981 Mustang owners, there was a mid-year change in the starter. If you put an early 81 starter in an late 81, it will sit wrong and knock teeth out of the flywheel, eventually you;ll run out of places for the starter to grab onto the flywheel and it just sites there and grrrrinds.

**57 Bel air. Rebuilt the 283 when I was 16 and drove it 4 years before it was stolen. That was #1
** 56 Bel Air. Much nicer than the 57 was, and it was a much cleaner ride. They found that one stripped in the desert, south of Phoenix - but at least the body was still good. I put another small block in it, new wheels and drove it another four years after getting it back.

1973 Ford Pinto 3-Door hatchback. I had the bigger engine, yellow in color with black vinyl top. I used to put 100lb of rock salt in the back end and oversized snow tires on it in the winter and that little guy went everywhere...It was a full service car for me. My girlfriend loved that car, and as such she liked to take loooooooong drives in the country, flip down the back seat, open up the hatch and...well, you know, enjoy the stars. I told you it was a full service vehicle.
After about five years I had to get rid of her, rust everywhere.
Okay, I'll say it, those were the days...

Dad bought us our first car but we had to pay gas and insurance. Being the first in line I got the cheapest one in the deal. A 10 year old 1966 Rambler 660 Classic, 4 door, turquoise with a white top
It did have two redeeming qualities. It ran FOREVER on a tank of gas and the front bench seat backs reclined matching up with the rear bench. The perfect drive-in movie date car.

First car- a black 1962 Chevrolet Corvair, complete with tab airplane shift on the dash. Red interior.
Paid $25 from a guy in Jamaica Plain, MA.
I put on red tape pinstriping and the guys at McDonalds' asked if the tape was holding the car together.
One day the steering wheel actually broke loose in my hands. I left the car where it sat, took the bus home and never saw it again.
