Default So has anybody ever heard of....

A factory option called a "Monza" front clip offered in the early '70s? Supposedly had a smooth side gill similar to the '73 & later, and perhaps some other differences.

Just curious.....

Ross,

Good looking front end & everything else.

But no, I'm talking about an OEM factory special order option for pre-rubber bumper cars.
Maybe some NCRS guys know of it? It would be pretty rare, I would think.

True. The monza stle front ends or Monza light kits were aftermarket replacements used to repair wrecks, create customs, or to get rid of the vacuum actuated lights.

NOW here is where I post about the NCRS and their apparently crumbling EMPIRE.....just who in hell should CARE one way or another....wether GM had some goof up on the line in St. Louis some 35 years ago....get REAL.....

the point IS, these cars were born to be performance cars....and as such will ALWAYS BE 'HOTRODS'.....so anyone talking of NCRS is full of CRAP...

AND I know of this FIRST HAND......so don't tell me a damn thing....

Hate to shoot down a LOT of sacred cows, but the BEEF tastes fine to ME.....

Grind that cow up and drive it, for christsakes.....

as to value of car....that's between buyer and seller....

I don't care about any of that, & I don't want to buy one. I just want to know if that RPO existed or not. I have had no luck finding any information about it other than the aftermarket ones.
My query is simply, "Did the factory offer this as a special order option or not?"

John,
No RPO was ever offered for that.

GM did sell special racing Vette body parts through the parts department. Most common were "L-88 wheel well flares" or the less common (even wider) SCCA "wide body" modification parts. Several other 3rd party vendors sold similar pieces. They even sold racing body parts for the "Monza" cars but that was probably not what you were looking for.

Now for my simple mind, I would assume that all factory options would probably fall under a custom orders. Therefore, I would assume that there would be some paperwork involved. Anything from paint, interior material, add and delete parts. Now-A-Days anyone can get replacement paperwork, so that means nothing. Restoration paperwork or restoration parts.

Was it a factory mistake?? Optional factory mistake??

What ever happened to the day where if you thought someone was wrong ya proved it, Nope, lets all point finger, thumb your nose, yaw YAW na NA whine.

Now **** on my leg for awhile:

My 77 has a factory optional spare radiator shroud support bolt.

Leave this up for you folks to figure out, Yet the rotor is balanced.

Last but not least, there are some parts that are stamped MADE IN CANADA.

Now where do I order that restoration paperwork??????

Prove........ Disprove..........or mettle.

Should be. That's a factory balance weight for balancing

Could that be a factory (or otherwise) balancing weight for the rotor?
(edit: Woops. That's what he said, huh?)

NO, the reason why is because the Fed.gov demanded safety testing in the late 60's onward, so the amount of exterior mods to a car were severely limited, especially in the bumper/frame/impact areas there would have to be a RPO on that and there isn't....or some NCRS guys would have notes on that in the books already....now COULD some '72s have left St. Louis without side grills, maybe, but doubtful...I don't think any car company ships cars without all the parts on them, even something as inconsequential as those side gills....for one thing, some customer will sit there and say, 'gee it don't match the catalogs'

Looks better without excess weight, anyway.....
