1977 Corvette as a First Car

Nice car! My first car was a 1977 white with red interrior too. Bought it in 2000 when I turned 16. There's several other younger folks on here that have had their first car be a 1977 vette. My dads first vette was also a 77 white with red interrior (I think he got his in 1980 but didn't hang on to it long). What is it about that year?!

Congratulations on your first Corvette! You seemed to have gotten an awesome deal!
Before you go for more power learn the techniques and quirks about driving the car. These cars are all front end and easy to lose control of if you do not take care.
You are in well under the market value of the car. Save your money, fix what's broken, and enjoy....

Congrats and welcome. My first, second, and third Vettes were all '77 Vettes. I started with a red one when I was 18, and bought my blue and black ones when I was 19. I bought them all myself too so I know how that goes.
It looks great and it sounds like you got a fantastic deal.
For the signal problem...
Do your hazard lights all flash?
If yes, reach up under the passenger side dash knee pad, and you'll find the signal flasher clipped near the courtesy bulb socket. Replace that, and check your signals again.
Good luck. Oh, and you're L88 badge will get you a lot of grief from Vette guys that don't know you when they see it's really a small block.

Welcome to the forum. I got my 81 last year when I was 17. Paid for the whole thing myself, too. You have to be really careful with older cars, especially Vettes. Once you start driving it for a while, you're going to start to learn more about it and want to change and upgrade everything on the car. Be very careful that you don't get carried away. You'll soon learn of the "While I'm at it" disease. Don't get bitten.
Ditch the L88 badges. These are what you want ->http://www.zip-products.com/Zip/prod...7E2B2583594828
Try some Turle Wax Polishing Compound and a buffing ball that fits into a drill. It's dirt cheap and will really shine those wheels up.
Once you get more into it, you're going to need a new rear spring. It's kind of saggy in the back.
You're going to learn a lot from the car and from this forum. Good luck

I'll stand bye my original post.
Have fun with the car, and don't hurt yourself or anyone else.

Looks good. You bought it with your own money right? Well that's a good thing. I bought my first car when I was 16 with my own money too. $175 for a 64 Chevy Impala SS. Drove it for over 5 years. Anyways, respect the car. Don't let anyone egg you on into racing. Let them go, smile, wave and enjoy the ride.

My dad used to tell me all the time, "It don't matter how fast you get there, it's what you look like when you arrive".
You'll look really good arriving in the Vette. Arriving being the key word here.

I wasn't planning on racing anyone, my brother owns a 1972 mustang so we might go out and see what they can do, but that will be a while once I got the manual down pat.

Congrats, and welcome to the young guns corvette club (not official). Your car looks a heck of a lot better than my car. I bought my 76 about a year or so ago for 2500 and lets just say it has its share of problems. This forum has been a tremendous help with figuring out problems and stealing knowledge from the pro's on here.

the only things that are giving me real problems right now are the gas prices and my turn signals. I have been hand signaling, but I haven't really tried very hard to fix the problem yet. Been to busy driving around and enjoying the great weather here.
