Stock pushrod length for a 79 was 7.800. I recommend purchasing a pushrod checker tool and then measure after installation of heads, lifters and rockers to be sure.

With a hardened, .080 wall thickness, one piece push rod, ya can't go wrong.

Are you installing roller rockers? If so, you will need to follow Vette79C-3's advice, use a push rod lenght checker prior to buying new push rods. Plus you need to be sure the push rod ends match the size of the recess on the end of your rockers.

diameter will depend on your rockers. Don't skimp here...I tried cheap Comp Cams pushrods once. Bent one on the way to a friends wedding. I was so pissed! Replaced them with Trick-flow 1 piece hardened push rods. Problem solved.

this is definitely sound advice, I know from experience. fortunately I was able to return a set of the wrong length pus hrods. roller rocker arm geometry varies from mfg to mfg. I changed from 1.6 ratio Cat Power Rocker to 1.6 ratio Scorpion and had to go to a stock plus .250 pushrod. Comp sells a decent push rod length checker. I believe Comp Cams website has a tech doc on how to go about checking pushrod length with the tool.
