Default Installed a Windjammer Today

(I do not know if "Windjammer" is a trademark. The shipping box had no manufacturer name, even the instructions had no corporate attribution, so I use the word as a generic term.)

The 1974 is my first Corvette convertible and one of the first things that struck me was wind turbulence at speed/on the highway. I ordered a Windjammer weeks back and it was very slow in coming but this is not a vendor-bash thread.

The unit is of very good quality. The plastic or Lexan is ~1/4" thick and very sturdy. The fit is ~95% there but there are some small gaps along the horizontal top windshield surfaces. That is more a function of the GM SS trim than the Windjammer: the joints on the SS trim overlap and create those small gaps.

I have not tried the car with the unit on as yet as it is - as usual this summer - raining. But I see an up-and-over flow of air. And that can only help reduce road noise.

The attachment points are the usual t-top/convertible pin locations with additional nylon bushings and Allen-head screws. In the event of a sudden rainstorm with t-tops off or convertible top down I can see the Windjammer coming off in about two minutes. Very simple.

And despite what I was informed here in May by one vendor, and stated on their web site, it obviously does fit on a convertible and not just a t-top car.

You're definitely gonna like it! It redirects the airflow higher over your head and reduces turbulence and noise. An added benefit is you can wear a hat without losing at most reasonable speeds.

Thanks fellows. You can see my Tilley hat in one of the pics. Maybe I can wear it now.

Got one at Carlisle last year for $75. Have cleaned it up but haven't tried it out yet.

I suppose you could but it would look tacky. We are talking 1-2 minutes with a small Allen wrench.

The Allen wrench is stored in the rear compartment along with road-side tools. I'm well-equipped after driving these cars for >20 years.

I've always enjoyed a little turbulence with the top down, but I suppose my hair would get less messy on mornings I'm driving to work.

It kind of looks like it's wearing sunglasses on its forehead.

Just curious. Anyone know who makes these things? The pic shows the "documentation". No company name, address, web site, telephone number, warranty, tech support, etc. But they are sold by major vendors. Strange.....

Default Got one this week and wow !

Hey Paul !

Also got mine delivered this week and its AWESOME

NOISE and WIND reduction is great !
You can have a conversation with your passenger and listen to the radio at a reasonable volume level when travelling with the windjammer.

Good investment !!!!

Salute

Phil,
I haven't tried mine yet on the highway. Been busy with other things and of course it rains too much in Ottawa!

I finally hit the road despite the dark skies. Well, I'm impressed!! The Windjammer sure does cut down on wind turbulence. Kind of a goofy-looking thing but it sure is functional. Money well spent.

Like the car, looks beautiful.

Would have to agree but sometimes function wins out over form.
Loud stereo takes care of the noise for me, slight tilt of the visors up helps cut down on the turbulence.

You've been around here for almost as long as I have .

Had my doubts on buying a 1974 being that it is the first rubber bumper car. Sort of the runt of the litter label similar to that I endured for years with my 1979. It may be my age but I really like this car! It's reasonably comfortable, dependable (after some work done), and a convertible is very nice. All-in-all I am pleased with the purchase.
