Default Battery disconnect location

Looks like a lot of you guys use a battery disconnect. Where is a good place to put the disconnect switch in a C3 vette? Close to the battery would be best I imagine but inside the battery box would be difficult to reach every time I want to drive or stop. Maybe behind the seat in the riser panel? Where do other members have it located?

My 74 has one that was in it when i bought it. It's right on the battery terminal and you have to lift up the lid with the seat back tilted forward to get at it. I forget about it and never remember to turn it off so is not a problem for me.

Mine is mounted between the seats. It’s easy to get to and when you pull the key out it’s basically invisible.

Do most people have these to keep from draining the battery, or security?

Simplest place I found was the center storage compartment, battery side....

mostly just to keep from draining the battery on mine, but the added security is a nice touch.

Both. It is very convenient to shut down power when working on the car. Also nice for security for the car; that's why I left it in the battery box...so I can lock it, too, if needed.

I welded up a little bracket to put a key-type switch in the front of my battery compartment where the positive cable comes in. It can only be easily found by touch.

in my '79 there was a perfect about 3/4" hole right behind the passenger seat coming out of the storage area.i shimmed it out with i think 3/4" plywood so it would'nt protrude out too far and secured it in.

The main reason I have my disconnect is so I don't have to worry about an electrical fire while the car AND I are sleeping.

Mine is on the battery terminal. That's how I got it. I like it like others have said, in case of battery drain and not having to worry about electrical short leading to fire. And having it close in case when your driving and you see and smell smoke, you can pull over and then disconnect it quickly so no further damage will occure. Tony
