No, I just mention that if when they get out they happen to touch the pipes with exposed skin it will be vaporized and leave an ugly scar for life....that usually works.

Main reason I don't like sidepipes but, sidepipe covers I'm sure might help.

I tell all guys that ride with me to watch out. If they get burned after that it's their fault and they will never do it again.

As far as girls, I always help them in and out of the car. I make sure they stay put while I get out, go around, and help them out. As a habit I always open their doors anyway so helping them in is easy and part of the plan.

I would LOVE to get Jet-Hot'd side-pipes for my '82, but my fiancee says she will begin wearing slacks when we take it out for a ride if I do.....

If she can be convinced that Jet-Hot will prevent scars, I have a chance.....

I keep a nice thick folded towel in the back of the car and have them lay it across the pipe when they open the door before they get out.

Default Patriot Side Pipes

The Patriots are a nice cheap alternative for side pipes and they come with nice shields. Great Sound Too !

If you get burned more than once, you are a SLOW learner!!!!

I suppose a set up of shields like whats on scooters will help since the General didn`t provide as OEM C-3 sidepipes with a protection guard built into the system to prevent injuries as he provided for in the C-2 series of sidepipe Vettes.....

Forget the sidepipes for now, you don't need them

Kidding aside, was curious if anyone made a heat proof flap that would fall over the pipe when the pass door was opened, not a bad idea I guess.

None of my passengers have been burnt, I have and its enough to remember EVERY time you get out how hot the pipe is and enough to remember to remind your passenger "dont burn your legs on the pipe"

i got these shields and they work well enough for me to res my hand on the middle of them for a good 10-15 sec after a 30 min drive, they are held in place by 4 bolts welded in place onto the pipe

2 45 degree bends

My friend burned the hell out of his leg on my AC Cobra a year back or so. I made some perforated stainless steel covers, they look sharp. Under that i put a layer of header wrap.

Ex-wife got burned. Got rid of her. Problem solved.

But seriously, I added heat shields because my daughter sometimes rides with me. Also, my new fiance has great legs. She loves the sidepipes as well.

Same thing here. Be a gentleman and help the ladies out of the car.

However, my stainless pipes don't seem to get hot enough to really do any damage.

The first burn isn't so bad, it's when the first burn hasn't healed and they do it again.................That's when the girl friend says the sidepipes have to go...................Yeah Right !

My 11 yo son got burned on our first outing, easily cured by ice cream (in mouth ,not on leg). I switched to Patriots with cheese greater heat shields (because they came with the car when I bought it) and we've had no issues. I still warn everyone just to be careful not to hit the tip of the pipe.

The covers on my mid-year pipes do a reasonably good job of protecting me and my passengers.

I have heard several exclamations as legs touched the covers,
but never more than a red mark even on bare legs.
