Default Craigs list scam or is it the real thing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Several days ago I saw a 1973 Coupe for sale for the unreal price of $4250. The next day the ad was delited. No phone # was listed, just an email. The ad was in the Orange County Craigs list in CA. When the seller responded to my e mail, he stated this

Hello,
Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm in Glasgow (United Kingdom)
right now and I have been very busy.Anyway, thank you for your interest
in buying the car. The car is located in US right now and has US
papers. Why is the price so low? I am here in Scotland with my new work
and I cannot register the car here, as it is made for USA , according
to
USA standards. So all that I want to do now is to sell the car at this
price, because I need to sell it fast(I already made a deposit here to
buy me another). The title is clean and you will have absolutely no
problems to register the car in the States.I will tell you a few words
about the car..
My 1972 Chevrolet Corvette with automatic transmission it is in
immaculate
condition with 157,000 miles, rust free , no scratch and hasn't been
involved in any accident. The
motor runs very well(8 Cylinders). The interior looks great(NO
SMOKING).This car needs nothing, the title is clear ,it is not a salvage
one. I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in
the
middle of some very important events and have little time at my
disposal. I already have tons of emails so I hope you understand that I
need to sort them out.
The price is $4,250 .THIS IS MY LAST PRICE.I will not negotiate the
price.I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really
interested in buying the car ,to be sure that I don't waste my time
with
endless discussions. This way,I shall be assured of the serious
intentions .
For more pictures click in the link below:

So if you are interested please email me back for next step.
Regards !!
~Greg Hill~

So what should I do to make sure this is not a scam?
Thanx everyone in advance
Joe

Ask where (physicaly) the title is, where the car is, and how you can see it. Tell him you will put cash in the hand of the person here who has the keys and they will put the title in yours. He can get the funds from them. Ideally you would like to do this on a weekday at the DMV, if anything is funny, it should come up on their computers. Any other story, no matter how plausable, run don't walk away. /:\

Here's a couple of scam ads I copied. It was posted then quickly removed.

for a 67 vette:
Hello,
and thank you for your interest in my car. The chevy looks and runs
exactly
as new. The title is clean, and you will receive it along with the car,
so
you will have no problems whatsoever registering it there. This car has
ALWAYS been ADULT driven. Car has 91,750 miles. It has not seen rain,
snow,
or any adverse weather. Loaded Original Big Block With Factory Air
Conditioning. 427-390HP, 4-Speed, Original Engine, Matching Numbers,
Goodwood Green/White Stinger & Convertible Top, Saddle Interior, Plus:
Power
Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Telescopic Steering Wheel,
AM-FM,
Bolt On Wheels, Aluminum Side Exhaust, Tinted Glass, Leather. Excellent
Mechanical Shape-Everything Works, Paint Excellent Driver Quality.
Drives
Like A Dream! .The interios is flawless, it still smells fresh. It was
never
smoked in. The engine runs smooth, no problems there either. The vin #
is:
194677S116869 . I hope you are serious in your intention for buying,
don`t
take it personally, but I had many problems with fake buyers in the
past. So
if you decide on buying the chevy, I want the deal closed only through
eBay`s Safe Purchase program. You will make the payment to eBay and
they
will hold the money until you receive the car. After you receive the
car and
you inspect it, the money will be released to me, in this way we are
both
protected. Anyway, the car is available and I guess you could be it`s
new
owner if everything turns out all right and, again, if you are serious
about
buying. I am located in Zagreb, Croatia. I moved here 8 months ago,
brought
the car with me, but now I have to sell it back in the United States,
because i can`t register it in europe, as it has US emission standards
and
specs, non compliant with european standards. My final price on it is
$11,000US. If you will take this price, I am willing to pay for
shipping and
insurance to your location. Please get back to me A.S.A.P. if you
decide to
buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address so I can
start
the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and
shipping details from them.

for 69 vette:
Hi there,
Thank you for contacting me regarding my car.
First of all i want to tell you that the car is in perfect condition, and
the price includes all the shipping costs and insurance so you will not
have to pay any extra charges. The car has a Clean Title wich will come
along with it. I moved to Sweden because i was sent here with
work. The car is in a perfect condition. It's a great car, I am devastated that I
have to sell it but I have to pay too much money to register it here,so I
decide to sell it. The car it is still registered in States but curently is located in Malmo , Sweden.
The car will be shipped with Lufthansa Air Cargo, and will be on your door in 5 max 6 days.
For our protection i will use for payment Craigslist ( a third party wich hold the payment until u receive the car ) . If you want to continue, please send me your full name and your shipping address ( and also phone # ) so I let Craigslist know that you are interested .You will receive an email from them instructing you about how to send payment and they'll release the funds to me only after you receive and inspect the car. When i will have the Craigslist confirmation,i will ship the car to you.
I think that this is a fair way to make business and I hope that you will agree. I don't touch your money until you receive and inspect the car.
Hoping that I have kept your attention and your interest is still on, I look forward for any questions that you might have regarding the car.
Regards

Wow. Very convincing. However some of the spelling errors may give him away. Some of these guys are from Africa or E. Europe. Their limited vocabulary may give them away also. But he also states that the money will not be touched until the vehicle arrives. Now that is very convincing. Then again, these guys pray on Greed. Most of the Corvette owners I have met in the past have turned out to be honest, decent men. So these idiots take advantage of that fact.

Thanx everyone for your support. I almost fell for this one. However, I had given him my name, work address and Phone #. I hope that is not enough info for ID theft and other related scams.

It's very likely a scam.. Just ask if you can take a look at the car in person in Cali... If he comes up with some kind of excuse, you know for sure that it's a scam..

Craigs List has a scam reporting e-mail account. You really should report this to them. I have, as recently as two weeks ago.
