BIRDCAGE REPAIR "A LA HACK"!!! you have to see this
Well, this is our latest project at the shop. A 69 coupe. It got dropped off from another "RESTORATION" shop.
The owner saw our website and after being dissapointed at the cars current progress decided to bring the car to us so we can take over.
This is what I received for a body. The birdcage had issues so this "shop" decided to fix it as the pics show!!!!!!!
I must say even I was aghast at this!!!! (I have seen some hack work before but this is the greatest hack). If I didnt know better I would have thought that the shop that did this was the same shop that "FIXED" BB72's frame.
All you people need to be very aware of where you leave your cars to be worked on. It is unbelievable what some people do to these cars and charge for it.(Gotta love the pistachio primer on the bare glass).I can only imagine what I will find under that!!!! All that goodness cost the customer about 5k.(the guy was giving him a good deal) Imagine that.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR AND SOMETIMES A LOT LESS!!!!!
Regards,Stan

Hi Stan,
I've seen worst, it's in my garage and the project is on hold since the holidays because of that reason. I don't know how to post pics here. I'll put some together on the weekend and e mail them to you.
Tony.

Thats unbelievable that these people try to charge for this stuff. Thats fraud and they should be arrested. But...thats not part of the criminal code to get that kind of service unfortunately. You have to deal with it in civil court. I got three calls from the ministry of transport today regarding the bondo frame, I was sleeping....

Is that cardboard and a plastic bag used to fill the hole under the bondo? I don't think even Bubba is capable of doing that type of work. Wow, I'm glad that I'm the original ower of my 75 and know what I got. Good luck.

WTF someone is not seriously trying to make structural repairs with g.d. Bondo are they?!?!
People PAY for work like that? Jeebus I could do a better job with rebar and my $200 FCAW welder.

The good luck needs to go to my customer who now has to try to collect from the guy who did this to his car!!!!
At least the car will now be fixed properly and my customer is very happy about that!!!

i don't understand why they would try and finish it smooth with bondo. weld some steel on it for christ 's sake.it doesn't have to look perfect. it's all hidden

It's a real shame that there are people out there that are capable of doing that to such a classic machine. It's one thing to try to take a customer for a "ride". It's another thing entirely to mess with a chrome bumper car like that.

The fact of the matter is we are dealing with cars 30,40 or more years old ,beat up and fubared back together for a lot of those years
Unfortunately every body/resto shop out there is the best according to their own selves, and the rest don’t know what they are doing .
Even more unfortunate is most of us are at other trades or professions and are at the mercy of those supposedly in the know.

Very nice!
What is the correct procedure, just cut out the bad sections and weld in new pieces? Does anyone make the complete cage?
