Default Starter Heat Shield?

Did the factory install starter motor heat shields on small blocks in 1970? And is this available OEM or reproduction? ---- I know they did on the big blocks but not sure about small blocks.

Thank you.

If they did, it only covered the switch because the bakelite cap on the end as that is the only style that was ever mounted on a GM starter. A good possibility that they were used however. And I would say they did. Ford did the same thing with the 429/460 starter as they used a similar external top mounted starter switch like GM`s.

The SB starter heat shield is much smaller than the BB shield and didn't cover as much area.

One size fits all, only the noses are different between BB and SB until the 454 where upon there the same.
